Myrna “Joy” Swetman Fountain peacefully closed her beautiful eyes for the last time on August 23, 2025, finding eternal rest after a prolonged illness. She passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Joy entered this world on November 30, 1940. As a child, she grew up in the light cast by the Biloxi Lighthouse, spending most of her cherished early years with her grandparents. It was there that she learned to shine and became a beacon of hope—a safe harbor to all who were blessed by her presence throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Scruggs Swetman, and her mother, Odie Swetman, both of Biloxi on the point, son, Jason Paul Fountain Sr., two grandsons, Samuel Evan Fountain and Jason Paul Fountain Jr., and a half-sister, Gloria Fountain of Ocean Springs.
Joy’s greatest treasures were her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Felix “Ray” Fountain “Froggy” of Long Beach; her children, Cindy Fountain and Flex Fountain, both also of Long Beach; and her grandchildren, Jacob Aaron Fountain and Emily Anne Fountain. She also leaves behind 5 great-grandchildren, her sisters Judy Byrd and Debbie Gazzo, and her brothers Windy Swetman and Mark Swetman. Joy had many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Joy’s legacy will live on in the love she poured into her family, the light she shared with her community, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and faith.
“As a devoted mother, she thrived in being a great homemaker and comforting, loving mother to everyone that she allowed to enter into her open door; however, she was known for her strict first policies, washing your hands before opening the fridge, and getting into any food or touching anything in her kitchen.”
A service honoring her life will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Riemann Family Funeral Home in Long Beach, MS, with visitation from 5:00 – 6:00 PM and the funeral service beginning at 6:00 PM. A procession will depart the funeral home at 8:00 AM on Thursday, August 28, 2025, to Biloxi National Cemetery, where a graveside service will take place at 9:00 AM.
