On August 16th, 2024, after suffering from several medical complications, Myrna B Fenton quietly slipped away, to rejoin
her heavenly sweetheart, and three boys.
Myrna was born October 3rd, 1938, to Horace and Afton Hatch, of Rupert, Idaho. As the second oldest child she often helped her parents take care of her younger siblings and maintain the family household. While attending Rupert High School she met the boy who would become her lifelong companion and sweetheart, Gary Fenton. After briefly courting, they were married on August 10th, 1954, in Bountiful, Utah. They would later be sealed on May 9th 1958, as a family, for time and eternity, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Not long after getting married Myrna began her first love and lifelong passion, being a mom. She and Gary raised 5 boys (2 babies sadly passed shortly after birth). Myrna took great pride in raising and nurturing each of her boys and watching each one excel in careers, finding love, and raising their own families. She would claim repeatedly, even near the end, that her boys were the purest joy of her life.
Among her other passions Myrna was a classically trained musician. She went on to share her talents as a teacher of voice and piano in an epic career that lasted more than sixty years. She taught and inspired young artists all over the valley to share their love of music. Throughout her life, anywhere she went she seemed to run into students and families that she had taught. She was even pleasantly surprised when one of her last doctors' face lit-up at her first visit. Her doctor smiled and informed Myrna that she had taken piano from her for 12 years as a young girl.
Myrna was a life-long active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in every ward she attended from teaching Gospel Doctrine to leading numerous ward choirs over the course of 30 years. In her later years, even as her sight diminished, she continued to attend the temple every week.
She loved to read and watch movies; whether it was at the movie theater or on tv, curled up on her bed with one of her boys. Well in to her forties she also played sports like basketball and softball for family home evenings. Of course, as many already know, Myrna was an avid golfer. She played in scrambles and was active in various women's golf associations. Over the fireplace in her studio, she proudly displays nine trophies for each of her nine holes-in-one she shot.
As Gary's health declined over the course of his dementia, Myrna dedicated herself to providing him with his much-needed care, proving to those around her that he must and would remain at home with her and not in a facility. Even after the passing of her sweet love she was resilient and active, blessing those she came in contact with service, but most of all to her family and grandchildren. She has always been a shining example of love, faith, hard work and kindness. We love you mom.
Myrna is survived by her 4 sons and their spouses: Neal (Coleen) Fenton, Steven (Emily) Fenton, Michael (Becky) Fenton and Eric (Rebecca) Fenton. She also has 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceded in passing were her sweet husband, Gary, and three of her sons, Randal, Gregory, and Jonathan. Also preceding her were her parents, her sister Merilynn Dalley and her brother Loren Hatch.
We appreciate all the kindness that others have shown her over the last couple of years. Myrna was truly blessed by the devotion and kindness of friends and neighbors. We also appreciate the committed care and patient handling Myrna received at the Ogden Regional Medical Center in the ICU and IMCU. The doctors, nurses and staff provided excellent comfort and care for Myrna. Thank you.
