Myrna Soto Pizano

Celebrating the beautiful life of our beloved Myrna S. Pizano, January 21, 1941 - August 10, 2025. At the age of 84, our cherished mother, grandmother, and friend departed to be with the Lord in Heaven and is now jubilantly reunited with her loved ones who passed before her.

Myrna embraced life with passion and purpose and filled it with adventure and excitement. She was known for her beautiful, spiritual poetry, and blessed us with her masterful and emotional recitals. In church, she was fondly known for her exuberant clapping style, her joyful playing of her tambourine, and her love of singing loudly during praise and worship. She spread joy, love, and humor wherever she went and was the life of the party, and her attendance made any event an extra happy occasion. Myrna had a flair for style and loved to take the time to dress in a stylish manner, put on a beautiful scarf, a broach, and a little perfume before heading out the door. She faced life’s challenges with tenacity, prayer, and grace, who was an exemplary Christian woman worthy to be emulated.

Myrna was born on January 21, 1941, in the town of Saric in Sonora, Mexico, to parents Casildo Soto and Maria Luisa Ortiz Soto. She was the fourth of six children: Humberto, Ofelia, Guillermo, Gerardo, and Beatriz, all of whom have passed. Myrna recounted her childhood as carefree and beautiful, filled with many friendships and festivals and wearing ribbons in her hair. She remembered her mother being a masterful seamstress and baker, and her father working hard, traveling across the border to work at seasonal farms and construction sites to ensure his family lived comfortably. She recounted favorite memories of the neighbors gathering excitedly in her home to watch the very first television in town, and how her father brought home a new Studebaker car and treated everyone to rides. She was a good student, yet her main interest was socializing. As a stylish teen, she enjoyed working in a souvenir shop near the border town of Nogales, Mexico, where she began to learn English as she interacted with tourists.In her early 20’s, Myrna moved to San Jose, California to live with her elder siblings and their spouses and began working at produce packing companies. She was delighted by the amount of her first paycheck and was excited to send money home to Mexico.

Myrna was introduced to Christianity at Mision Misionera in San Jose, where she dedicated her life to Christ. Her brother and sister-in-law introduced Myrna to Herbert Pizano, a young Christian man eager to spread the gospel. She was 22 years old when they married on October 14, 1963, in San Jose. In 1965 they had their first child, Rebecca, then Daniel in 1966, and Ruth in 1969. They raised the family in the Evergreen area of San Jose.

In the mid 70’s, they joined the congregation of Templo el Monte Horeb in Sunnyvale. She was a dedicated member of the congregation in many roles, especially the Women’s Ministries and Missionettes. There are many fond memories of her and other members making hundreds of tamales in the church kitchen to raise funds for the church and special needs. The devoted friendships forged at Monte Horeb have lasted a lifetime.

Always seeking opportunities to support her family, she found success in independent direct sales ventures, like Avon, Tupperware, and Princess House.There are many happy memories of her children helping with packaging, distributing samples, and accompanying her to demonstration parties in friends’ homes. She also worked seasonally at several canneries in San Jose, such as Carnation, Contadina, and Del Monte, where she was promoted to leadership roles. From the mid-80’s to the late 90’s, she was employed full-time at O’Connor Hospital in hospitality services. Doctors and staff frequently sought her help with translating for Spanish-speaking persons, a service she happily provided.

On April 26, 1996, Myrna proudly became a Naturalized US Citizen. She became a regular volunteer at voting booths for many years, once again helping as a translator when needed. Myrna had many hobbies and interests, including traveling (cruising in particular), volunteering at Second Harvest Food Bank,City Team’s ministries, and many community and charity organizations. She received numerous awards and recognition for her dedicated work for City, County, and charity organizations. She loved spending time with family and friends and preparing delicious meals for special events. Her specialties included tamales, flautas, potato salad, salsa, and tostadas. She loved crocheting and was proud to have shared this hobby with her granddaughter. Myrna crocheted cell phone holders, Christmas ornaments, scarves, and hats for friends and donated hundreds of hats to families of field workers and people in Mexico. She was sentimental and enjoyed surrounding herself with memorabilia, including many special dresses, purses, and shoes dating back decades which connected her to fond memories.

In 2004, Myrna moved to De Rose Apartments, which led to a beautiful new chapter in her life where the neighbors became her extended family. They loved spending hours in each other’s company at holiday parties, potlucks, food distribution, and simply being together watching movies, at coffee time, playing games, sharing meals and making each other laugh. Myrna became the self-appointed “welcome ambassador,” and would reach out to new residents to make sure they felt welcomed and included. The unwavering love and dedication to Myrna was evident by their regular visits to her in the hospital and nursing homewhich lifted her spirits so very much. They continue to demonstrate their love as they organize the repass arrangements. We are deeply grateful for the love and compassionate care provided by her caregivers, which allowed Myrna to remain safely in her apartment for the past few years.

Myrna’s last church membership was at Iglesia Cristiana Damasco, a Pentecostal church under the leadership of Pastors Jorge and Norma Barrientos, where Myrna shared that she felt the true presence of the Lord. The congregation showered her with love and kindness for so many years. They often visited and prayed with her in the hospital and helped fortify her spirit and faith. Our deepest gratitude for the tender love and support given to Myrna and for conducting our mother’s funeral and interment services.The family extends our heartfelt appreciation to the many special friends that shared their immeasurable love and compassion for Myrna by visiting her often and some staying at her side for hours to provide love and reassurance. They are truly the heart of Christ and are cherished far beyond words could ever express.

Myrna lived her life with a deep devotion to her family and leaves behind a legacy forever cherished by her children, Rebecca (and her husband, Jose), Daniel (and his wife, Lynn), and Ruth, and her adoring grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, Michael, Nikolas, and Francesca. We are eternally grateful for the amazing mother and grandmother that blessed our lives and the endless love and devotion that she bestowed upon us. We will miss her smiling face, her warm embrace and the passion and flair with which she lived each day.
