Myron Geiger Hanchett

 

Myron Geiger Hanchett, 85, passed away peacefully October 1, 2023, surrounded by his children.

Myron was born at home March 21,1938 in Duncan, Arizona to parents Vaudene Geiger and Ray Monroe Hanchett.  He was one of four children born of that union and weighed in at a whopping 13 pounds on the trusty old farm scale.  Myron had ten older siblings that were a blend from his parent’s first marriages, both of which had resulted in leaving them widowers.

Myron grew up in Duncan, Arizona, later moving to Colorado, graduating from Kremmling High School.  Myron immediately started working for the Forest Service. He later attended Eastern Arizona College and BYU, graduating with an Associates Degree.  After following jobs in order to provide for his family, Myron settled into a career with Utah Power & Light and was able to retire in 2001, allowing him to devote even more time to his wife and family.

Myron was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many callings, including serving as a full time missionary in the Redlands, California Mission.  It was on this mission, unbeknownst to him, that he would meet his future wife, Christine Renea Thorsen, in Medford Oregon.  Upon returning home, Myron joined the Army Reserve with his lifelong friend, Dean Lunt.  Myron and Christine remained in contact for several years through letters and recordings until he happily married his eternal love, Christine, on October 2, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Myron and Christine had seven children with whom they shared their love of the outdoors; hunting, camping, fishing, gardening and Sunday drives.  Myron was a very humble, kind, caring, patient, loving and hard working man, always sacrificing to make life better for his wife and kids. 

Myron had a beautiful ability to always make people feel welcomed and important; this was a common thread throughout his life and in caring messages from others continuing after his death.  He made lasting impressions on anyone that crossed his path with his warm smile, his generous personality, and his kind and loving heart.  His sister Raydene expressed he was always good to her and everyone around him, “I have never known a kinder person; he was completely honest, completely unselfish, and completely giving.”

In 2020 Myron developed Pulmonary Fibrosis and became very ill; after months of rehab he was finally able to return home to his wife.  Sadly, she became ill and passed away April 16, 2022.  Myron missed her dearly and couldn’t wait to be with her again.

Myron knew his time was near and began preparing his children for his eventual passing.  He had the opportunity to say, “Good-bye, I love you all,” to his loved ones, he then waved his hands before closing his eyes. He had made it known his anniversary was the next day and he planned on spending it with his beloved wife in Heaven.

Myron is survived by his children Brian Hanchett (Andraya), Jim Hanchett (Tammy), Carrie Wells (Daiman), Renee Robison-Hanchett (Cynthia), Mark Hanchett (Tiffany), Jeffrey Hanchett (Jen), Cheryl Gilbert, 27 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, sisters Raydene Cluff, Chloa Lurlene James, brother Chuck Hanchett, and many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as his lifelong friend whom he considered a brother, Dean Lunt.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and siblings Vessa Hanchett McGrath, Elmo Hanchett, Brose Hanchett, Dona Hanchett Payne, Ila Hanchett Romney, Ray Mc Hanchett, Garth Hanchett, Emmitt Linn Hanchett, Royene Linn Arbaugh, and Jimmy Linn Hanchett.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 11AM at the LDS Chapel 2123 N. 2000 W. Farr West, Utah, with a viewing preceding from 9-10:30AM.  

Flowers can be delivered to the chapel on the morning of the funeral.
