Funeral services for Myrtis Cook Springer, 97, will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Arcadia with Rev. Stephen Boyd officiating.  Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, LA.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home.

Mrs. Myrtis was born to Fredrick and Minnie Thomas Cook on September 27, 1925, in Ruston, Louisiana.  She peacefully went to be with her Lord on December 22, 2022, with her loving granddaughter by her side.

Myrtis was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a devoted and faithful church member wherever she worshipped, where she sang in the choir, sang solos, and taught Sunday School. She was not one to sit back and watch but was a motivator and an encourager.

Myrtis was not only a wife and mother, but she also held many other jobs. She was the first secretary for Dr. Marvin Green during WWII, when Green Clinic was on the 3rd floor of the T.L. James Building, when she was 17. She was the Bienville Parish Chairman of March of Dimes when Dr. Jonas Salk perfected the Polio vaccine. She was a proud member of International Order of King’s Daughters and Sons, “In His Name” Chapter in Greenville, MS., where she served a past president for 4 years.

Myrtis is preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Minnie Cook, loving husband of 62 years, Richard Springer, her son John Richard Springer, by 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Left to cherish her memories is her granddaughter Ashely Springer, grandson John Thomas Springer, great grandchildren Savannah Brooke McGhee, Emma Noelle McGhee, and Sadie Carter Diane Springer, great-great grandchildren Liam Sanchez and River McGhee, numerous nieces and nephews, and by her close special friends, Marie Basham, the Simpson family, and the Bolton family.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Thomas Springer, Reed Griffin, Robert McDowell, Dylan Spain, Thomas Bourn, and Todd Pesnell. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Bolton, Jerry Lane Simpson, Al Madden, Bobby Joe King, Jimmy McGhee, Donald Byrd, Ray Gaudet, Milton Odom, and Jack Boyd.
