Mrs. Myrtle Whittaker Gibbs, age 83 of Ellijay, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 6th, 2025 at her residence.

Mrs. Gibbs was born on October 27th, 1941 in Trenton, New Jersey to the late Leon Hamilton Hewitt and the late Caroline Fox Hewitt. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who dedicated her life to raising and nurturing her family with love, strength, and grace. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the values she held dear. A faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Ellijay, she loved the Lord dearly and lived her life as a shining example of Christian faith. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will be remembered always.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gibbs' is preceded in death by one brother, Luke Hewitt and one sister, Carol Pezzi.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Mr. Norman Edward Gibbs, Jr. of Ellijay, GA, sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Norman Edward Gibbs, III and Ginger, Ronald Leon Gibbs and Pam, and Brian Gibbs all of Ellijay, GA; daughter, Donna Myrtle Gibbs of Ellijay, GA; grandchildren Tim Gentry, Brandon Gibbs, Donald (Stacy) Gentry, Mark (Jamie) Gibbs, Lauren Gibbs and Emma Gibbs; great-grandchildren Blair Gibbs, Brody Gibbs, Cali Gibbs and Everly Gibbs; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Hewitt and Madeleine of TN, and sister, Debby Pezzi of Nashville, TN also survives.

To honor Mrs. Gibbs' requests, she will have a private funeral service with her son, Rev. Norman Gibbs, III, officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper, GA.

Bernhardt Funeral Home of Ellijay is entrusted with these arrangements.
