Mrs. Myrtle R. Hannah Vaughn, age 85, of Cornelia, GA., passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, December 8, 2025, following an extended illness. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, December 11th at 2:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home chapel with burial following in Washington County Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Vaughn's grandson, Mr. Jimmy H. Griswell will officiate her service. Active pallbearers will be Kaleb Lord, Jacob McNutt, Troy Ramage, Tony Ramage, Rusty Ramage and Ethan Jones. Her family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Vaughn was born in Millen and reared in Millen, Wadley, and Tennille, due to her father’s work with the railroad. She began her working career working in the Woolen Mill in Milledgeville prior to turning her focus on raising her children as a homemaker. Later in life while living in Sparta, she owned and operated Myrtle's BBQ. She and her husband James made their home in Cornelia for many years. While in Cornelia, Myrtle was an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Camping, fishing, and bowling were some of her favorite pastimes. Dancing brought great joy to Myrtle's life, and she was known as a talented writer, and crafted many poems and song text. Her parents, James Robert Ramage and Gladys Cauley Ramage, her first husband Freddie Hannah, two sons, James Hannah and Michael Hannah, a granddaughter, Brandy Hannah and two brothers, Doye Ramage and David Ramage all predecease Mrs. Vaughn.
Mrs. Vaughn is survived by her husband of 29 years, James E. Vaughn of Cornelia; daughters, Cynthia Griswell, and Suann McNutt and her husband Jacob all of Sandersville; her daughter-in-law Lisa Hannah of Milledgeville; step children, Rachel Bodeck and her husband Daniel of Florida, Rhonda Williams and her husband Allen of Forsyth, Becky Meier and her husband Brandon of Kennesaw, and Robin Pickett an her husband Marty of Gray; grandchildren, Jay Hannah (Monica), Tasha Hannah, Jimmy H. Griswell (Denise), Casey Lord, Hanna McNutt, Chloe McNutt, and Evan McNutt; ten step grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and siblings, Marilyn Mixon of Hawkinsville, Troy Ramage and his wife Susie and Tony Ramage and his wife Donna all of Milledgeville, a sister-in-law, Linda Brantley of Oconee and many nieces and nephews.
