Namon Allen McCoy McCloe

Namon Allen McCoy McCloe, 51, died on October 16, 2025 in San Diego after a lengthy struggle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Betty Jean McCloe and Eric (Mac) McCoy.

A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, for ten years he served in the U.S. Navy, stationed mostly in the Pacific, including on the USS San Bernardino where he honed his culinary skills. He formerly cooked in several restaurants in Scranton, including La Cucina and then pursued his passion at the Culinary Arts School of San Diego. He furthered his career at Carmen's in Scranton and numerous restaurants in San Diego.

Food and music were his passions, and he also loved Peanuts comics, especially those featuring Snoopy. An inquisitive spirit, he was an old soul at a young age; a great listener and a gifted conversationalist. To know Namon was to love him.

Surviving are two brothers: Travis W. McCloe and Roamell J. Smith; stepsisters Quintina Shaw, and Monique, Erika and Simone McCoy, and stepbrothers Darwin Shaw, and Erik and Aaron McCoy. Uncles: John E. McCloe, and Douglas McCloe; godmother Donnelle (Da) Kingsley. Best friend and caregiver, Robert Hinkle, of San Diego; dear friend Stefan Vogt; godchildren Sam Hendricks and Stagia McCloe; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Felicia McCloe, and a nephew, Damon McCloe; grandparents John and Earnice McCloe, aunts Faith and Charlotte McCloe and Uncle Theo McCloe.

A celebration of Namon's life will be held Saturday, November 15, at 1pm at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1926 Wayne Ave., officiated by Pastor Sean Walker.
