Nancy Bace Obituary

October 2, 1947 - September 11, 2025

Nancy Elizabeth Bace was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother; a healer, a listener and a woman whose quiet strength and compassion left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Nancy was born in Elmira, NY to the late Dorothy and Joseph Altieri, she was the oldest of 8 siblings. She grew up in Buffalo – a city she loved; and where she spent most of her adult life. Buffalo shaped her - its grit, its warmth, and its sense of community were reflected in everything she did.

Nancy dedicated her professional life to helping others. She began her career as an addiction counselor; walking beside people in some of their darkest hours and helping them find a path forward with dignity and hope. Later she pursued the career she had always dreamed of; becoming a registered nurse, extending her healing touch to even more lives.

She didn't just work in healthcare, she embodied care.

She didn't just heal, she inspired.

Nancy encouraged at least two others to become nurses, passing on not just a profession but a calling. Even more remarkably, through her care and encouragement, three very special people found the strength to walk and talk again. That is the kind of impact that echoes long after someone is gone. She changed many lives; quietly, humbly, and profoundly.

She was in every sense a superhero: not with a cape, but with a spatula and scrubs. Whether she was guiding someone through recovery, caring for patients, or preparing a meal for her family, Nancy showed up with purpose, strength and love; her superpowers were compassion, resilience, and the uncanny ability to make people feel like they mattered.

To her family, Nancy was everything.

She was the beloved wife of Michael R. Bace, her life partner, travel companion, and best friend. Their love was a quiet enduring kind- not just about romance, but about partnership, loyalty, and shared adventures. Whether exploring new places, or simply enjoying the comforts of home, they built a life full of memories, laughter and unconditional support.

Nancy was a devoted mother to Debbie (Richard)Wendel-Chojecki, Denise (Thomas) Zgoda, and the late Robert D. Bace. She was the proud grandmother of Caitlin, Ashlie, Colin, Chelsea (Kyle) and Lauren; each of whom brought her immense joy.

She especially loved cooking for her family, celebrating holidays with her children and grandchildren, and creating a warm, welcoming home; filled with laughter and tradition. Her meals weren't just meals, they were memories. Her table wasn't just a place to eat; it was where love was shared.

Nancy believed deeply in the people around her. She encouraged everyone she met to rise to the challenge and become the best version of themselves. Her faith in others was quiet, but powerful – a lasting gift to all that knew her.

Those who knew Nancy will remember her for her integrity, grace, and deep compassion. She led a life of selfless devotion and loving encouragement; leaving behind a legacy that will live on through the many lives she touched.

A private service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy's memory may be made to St. Luke's Mission of Mercy in Buffalo, or to Oishei Children's Hospital.

Nancy Elizabeth Bace will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered-not only for what she did, but for who she was, a woman of courage, compassion, and strength. Her light lives on in all of us.
