Nancy Sue Barker, a beloved adopted mother and grandmother, sister, aunt, outstanding teacher, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on April 15th, 2025 surrounded by family.

Born on January 15, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the eldest daughter of Byron Barker and Kathleen Fleming. Nancy graduated from Arlington High School and went on to earn her Master’s degree in Education from Ball State University.

A dedicated educator, Nancy spent 42 years teaching at IPS, Elder W. Diggs Elementary School #42, where she was known for her unwavering commitment to her students and her impeccable attendance. She was especially admired for her exceptional work as a kindergarten teacher, nurturing young minds with patience, creativity, and love.

Nancy was a devout Christian who found great joy and fellowship in worshiping at Northview Church in Carmel, IN, and Fishers Community Seventh-day Adventist Church. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her.

She was a true friend to all she met—kindhearted, accepting, and endlessly supportive. Nancy embraced everyone with compassion, celebrating their uniqueness and offering unwavering support in both physical and spiritual journeys.

She is survived by her siblings: Lawrence Barker, Beth (Edward) Levy, Janice Fleming (Kent Shroyer), and Joseph Fleming; her nieces and nephew: Jason Hood, Erika Levy, and Ashley Humston (Cory Crouch); and her great-nephew and niece: Braden Guerrero and Lillian Crouch; child, Serena McFarland, who all brought great joy to her life.

Nancy’s legacy of love, faith, and dedication lives on in the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 18th, 2025, from 4-6pm, with a funeral service to follow at 6pm, at Southside Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 4801 Shelbyville Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46237
