It is with great sadness that we announce our mother, Nancy Boaz Bivings, 82, of Lawrenceville, GA, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
Our mom was a true patriot at heart having been born to T.G and Irma Boaz in 1941 on November 11th, better known as Armistice Day. She spent her childhood and teenage years in Palatka graduating from Palatka High School in 1959. It was during that time that she met the love of her life, our father, Gene "Sonny" Bivings. They married soon after her graduation and their love story blessed them with 4 children (Randy, Richie, Ronnie, Nancy) and spanned 64 years of God's favor and adventures until her passing.
Having lost her father in her youth, our mother learned how to prevail and be successful in all circumstances. This was an attribute that sustained throughout her life and was our guiding light as she navigated our childhood to adulthood, and beyond. During that time, she had a successful career starting as an Executive Assistant at the O.M. Webb Store in Palatka in 1960. In 1978, our father accepted a position with Georgia-Pacific and she moved the family with him to Crossett, AR. While there, she worked as the Finance Secretary of First Baptist Church Crossett and was very active in many community and church activities. And in 1988, our father was promoted to the G-P corporate office in Atlanta and they settled in Snellville where mom worked as the Membership Director of the Georgia Association of Convenience Stores, retiring in 2007.
Faith, family, and friends were extremely important to our mother. After moving to Snellville, mom and dad joined First Baptist Church of Grayson where they have been active members up until recently, participating in many church activities and developing many great friendships. Mom loved to play bridge and many different table games with her church friends any chance she could. She also loved cooking big meals, including her amazing Texas Sheet Cake, and gathering with family as much as she could for holidays and special events. Her favorite gatherings were the many summers spent with extended family at Crescent Beach, FL.
Our mom is preceded in death by her parents T. G. Boaz and Irma Boaz Gilbert, and her eldest son Randy Bivings.
She is survived by her husband Gene of Lawrenceville, GA, sons Richie (Barbara) of Hot Springs, AR and Ronnie of Atlanta, GA, daughter Nancy (Cary) Dingler of Walnut Grove, GA and granddaughter Megan Bivings of Hot Springs, AR. She is also survived by her sister Susan Matthews, brother Ted Boaz, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a celebration of our mothers' beautiful life on March 23rd at Tim Stewart Funeral Home – Lawrenceville, 300 Simonton Road SW, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. Visitation starts at 1pm with the service at 3pm. Tim Brogan will be officiating.
Mom brought many smiles through her witty humor and compassionate soul, but her strong faith, perseverance, and love of life is the glue that binds our families love. While she did leave us her Texas Sheet Cake recipe, our mom will be missed, mourned, and forever in our hearts and memories.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please send a memorial gift to First Baptist Church Grayson specifying the Annie Armstrong Easter offering. You can give online at fbcgrayson.org/giving or by mail at 2142 Loganville Hwy Grayson, GA 30017.

I am a classmate of Nancy's from first grade until graduation from Palatka Senior High School in Palatka Florida. Lots of great memories and was pleased that i got to visit with her one time on her visit to Crescent Beach Florida. She was loved by many in our school years and her classmates were very sad to find out about her passing. Our 65th reunion is this coming weekend and we will have a tribute to her and five other classmates we have lost recently. She will be missed.
