Alexia Bivings Obituary

Alexia Beck Bivings, 98, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, surrounded by her entire family, including her nearly two-year-old great-grandson.

Born on May 5, 1926, in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, England, Alexia was the daughter of Alexander Renwick Beck and Elizabeth Crowley Beck.

She spent much of her early life in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France. During World War II, she and her mother endured six weeks in a German internment camp in Besançon before arriving in the United States in 1941, where they settled in New York City. Alexia would graduate from The Gunston School in Maryland in 1944.

Alexia began her career as a nurse in New York City. She later married Frank Gary Bivings, and following the Korean War, the family settled in Tucson, Arizona, where she spent the remainder of her life. Throughout her long career, Alexia served as a hospital, private practice, and hospice nurse, offering care and comfort to countless individuals in three languages.

Outside of her profession, Alexia was a devoted mother, avid hiker and birder, dedicated volunteer, and enthusiastic world traveler. She touched the lives of many through her warmth and generosity, energy, spirit, and interest in the world around her. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her son Gary (Isabelle Blanco), her daughter Leigh (Graham Pallett), her grandchildren Liliane and Renwick (Chinami), and her great-grandson Alexander Goh.

In place of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Tucson Bird Alliance, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson, and TMC Hospice.

Oh Lexie, how I've missed you since leaving. I had a moment of intuition telling me to google your name this evening. You were truly one of the sweetest and most loving people I've ever met. Thank you for believing in me and for guiding me to where I am today. Descanse en paz, my dear.

My father, Gerald Schwartz, told me about her and I read this. What an amazing person and a great loss.

Lexie was part of a special group of friends known as the "Swiss Misses." All had traveled on a Swiss hiking adventure in June 1994 and we cherished our bonds from that trip. We will miss Lexie.

I will always remain in awe of Lexie's life, her family, her professional achievements, her stories, her love of nature and people and her gratitude for a wonderful life of nearly 98 years. It is a privilege to call her a friend and the "big sista" I never had.

Lexie brought her smiles and stories of her amazing life to a neighborhood volunteer group called SNAP. She was a great neighbor and friend and will be missed greatly.

Tony and I were on so many hikes with Lexie over the years she will defiantly be missed. One of my fondest memories is sitting on her back patio in the foothills with all the hikers. Hearing about Leigh and the cats.
She had a wonderful life and there will be many lasting memories left behind.

I met Lexi through my good friend Helena Lamb. She was a delightful lady and I felt privileged to know her. Always enjoyed her company. My condolences to her family and many many friends. She will be greatly missed.
