Nancy V. Boyer

1932 - 2024

Mrs. Nancy Virginia Boyer of Mt. Pleasant died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living in Latrobe. She was 92. Nancy was born in Mt. Pleasant on Jan. 24, 1932, the eldest child of the late Turney and Evelyn Kastner and lived in the borough for virtually her entire life. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1949. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert Boyer Sr. Faith and religion were important to Nancy, and the 'Town Clock' church in Mt. Pleasant was a central part of her life. She attended worship services, youth fellowship activities, sang in the choir, taught children in Sunday school and summer bible school, served in many positions on the administrative board, and was a 'fixture' in the kitchen for church-covered-dish dinners for many years. As an active steward of the community, Nancy served as chairperson for Red Cross blood drives at the Mt. Pleasant VFW for numerous years. She also worked in the Second Ward polling station during elections and would subsequently donate any money she earned to a local charity of her choosing. She assisted with Mt. Pleasant's Sesquicentennial book, 'The Town That Grew at the Crossroad' and published a written and photographic history of the Mt. Pleasant Firemen's Band, commemorating their 75th anniversary in 2010. Hobbies were numerous and varied and included golf, cooking, neighborhood picnics and volleyball games, contract bridge, the Blue Ridge Mountain Sports Car Club, and the Mount Pleasant Women's Club. Nancy and Bob also traveled extensively over the years throughout the United States and Canada, the United Kingdom, and much of Europe. Nancy is survived by her son, Robert Boyer Jr. (Donna); and her grandsons, John Boyer (Liz) and Bill Boyer (Elizabeth). She is also survived by her sister, Rebecca Bondra; and her nieces, Tammy O' Connell (Michael) and Nancy Bly (Steve). Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at GALONE-CARUSO FUNERAL HOME, INC., Mt. Pleasant. A funeral service will follow on at 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Ellson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
