Nancy Rae (Anderson) Brunes passed peacefully into Heaven on Friday, November 28, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, MN. Nancy was born April 6, 1934, in Arland, WI.
She was the fourth of six children born to Andrew and Clara Anderson. The family moved to Turtle Lake, WI, where Nancy was involved in band and choir while in school. She was a member and sang in the choir at Evangelical United Brethren Church which later became the United Methodist Church.
After graduating high school, Nancy moved to Minneapolis and worked at Iowa National Mutual Insurance Company where she met John Brunes. They were married at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church on January 5, 1962, and resided in Richfield, MN.
In 1972 they moved to John’s hometown of Pequot Lakes, MN, when he was offered a job in the insurance agency at Lakeland State Bank. In 1986 they purchased Lakeland Agency and Nancy exhibited her superb typing skills working part-time until they sold the agency in 1997 and retired.
Nancy had a deep faith in God and was involved in church activities including the Evening Circle of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes. She enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards, bowling, watching the yard for birds and the occasional deer, traveling, fishing, going out for dinner, and cheering on her Green Bay Packers.
Nancy was a loving wife and mother to John and daughter Peggy and proud Grandma to grandsons Logan and Carter.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 63 years, John; daughter, Peggy Lynn (Brunes) Amdahl, and grandsons, Logan and Carter Amdahl, all of Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Andrew Anderson; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gordon, Rodney, and Ned Anderson; and sister, Luella (Anderson) DeGolier.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brenny-Kline Family Funeral Chapel in Pequot Lakes. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 6 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes at 1 p.m. with visitation an hour before the services.
