Nancy Byrd Obituary

Visit the Lane Funeral Home and Crematory - South Crest Chapel - Rossville website to view the full obituary.
Nancy Ann Garner Byrd, 82, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026. She was born on December 22, 1943, in Sherwood, Tennessee, to the late Cam and Espa Ruth Garner.

Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, David "Tweetybird" Byrd; her daughter, Camela Michelle Byrd; her parents; and her two brothers, Michael and Cam Garner.

Those left to cherish her precious memory include her daughters, Connie (Terry) Tipton and Dava (Tony) Cook. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Terry (Destiny) Tipton II, Amber Tipton and her fiancé Paul Pell, Katie Tipton and her fiancé William Nelson, Laney Robinson, and Sarah Woodlee. Nancy was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Aurora Dwyer, Isabella Talley, Jude Tipton, Bailey Pell, Anna Pell, Isaac Tipton, and Savannah Pell.

Nancy retired from Chattem, Inc., where she worked faithfully for many years. She was a longtime and devoted member of Browns Ferry Church of Christ, where her faith and fellowship were central to her life.

An accomplished athlete in her younger years, Nancy played volleyball, basketball, and softball with determination and spirit. Her love of sports never faded, and she could often be found on the softball field cheering on her grandchildren with pride and enthusiasm. When she wasn't at the ballfield, Nancy enjoyed cross stitching and working crossword puzzles-simple joys that reflected her patient and thoughtful nature.

Her family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga, especially Heather Payne Haswell, for the compassionate care and support shown during this time.

The family will receive friends from 4:00–8:00 PM on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Lane Funeral Home and Crematory South Crest Chapel. Friends are also invited to gather on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Browns Ferry Church of Christ from 10:00 AM until the time of service. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM in the chapel of Browns Ferry Church of Christ with Minister Gary McDade officiating. Interment to follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Condolences may be shared with the Byrd family at www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.

Nancy's legacy is one of steadfast love, quiet strength, faithful devotion, and joyful encouragement from the sidelines. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her spirit lives on in the family she cherished so dearly.
