NANCY JEAN COCHRANE, 74, beloved wife of Wayne Allan Cochrane, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 22, 2024 in her home with her loving husband by her side.
A native of Terra Alta, WV, Nancy was the daughter of the late Samuel Henry and Mildred Cottrell DeBerry. A remarkable student, she graduated as Valedictorian of East Preston High School Class of 1967. She continued her academic pursuits in music, earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from West Virginia University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. For 27 years, Nancy enriched the lives of her students as a music teacher in the elementary schools of Collingswood, NJ. She and Wayne both retired in 1995.
In 1998 they moved to Florida and she became actively involved as a hospice volunteer which led to her serving on the Board of Directors of HPH Hospice in Brooksville, FL. She made her home in Aiken since 2010 and attended St. John’s Methodist Church when her health allowed.
Surviving is her husband of 42 years, Wayne; two daughters, Heather Gustafson (Bob), Trappe, PA, Erin Tunnicliffe (John), Norwich, VT; two grandchildren, Layne Gustafson and Shay Gustafson; two sisters-in-law, Jane Kissinger (Don), Green Cove Springs, FL and Betty Paulina, Indiana, PA
A Celebration of Life for Nancy will be held Monday morning, September 30th at 11 o'clock at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev. Ronan Dillard officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Amazing Grace Christian Assembly (agcauganda.org) or HPH Hospice (chaptershealth.org)
