Nancy Cook Obituary

Nancy L. Cook

Nancy L. Cook, 85, a former longtime resident of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022, at Bucyrus Community Hospital. She had resided in Bucyrus for the past six years.

Nancy was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Tiffin, to the late Louis P. and Dorothy L. (Kirchner) Squeo and was a graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. A short while thereafter, Nancy went on a blind date with William C. Cook and on April 6, 1957, they married. Bill also adopted her son, Jeffrey, and adored them both. He was a devoted father and husband and treated her as every woman should be treated until his passing in 2012.

Nancy began her work career as a division manager with Sears and moved into décor with the company. She next formed her own business, Custom Decorating by Nancy, turning houses into homes and proudly served customers in the Tiffin area for much of her life. Nancy and Bill raised five children and as they ventured off to start families of their own, they decided to turn their home into the Mad River Railroad Bed and Breakfast. This venture hosted folks from all over the world and was a staple in the community for many years.

Nancy was an advocate for helping others in need and did this in many ways. At the early age of 19, she formed The Young Mothers Club with her son. The women would meet once a month to study and learn about childcare. She was a member of Tiffin Women's League, hosting parties and events. She was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church in Tiffin, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, hosted many Bible studies and the Thursday Friendship Class, and assisted where needed. Nancy had a passion for old historical buildings and homes, which this led her to take an active role in Tiffin Historic Trust, an organization that she co-chaired for many years. Her greatest victory was taking a case, alongside her fellow constituents, to Ohio Supreme Court in efforts to preserve the original Seneca County Courthouse. Nancy was the recipient of Outstanding Young Women award in recognition of service to the community by the Tiffin Jaycees in Jan., 1972, and in 2016, she was presented the Kenneth E. Davison Preservation Leadership Award.

Nancy was a vibrant lady who created an experience in everything she did. She was happiest when surrounded by family, especially the little ones. She was always supportive of them and always wanted the best for them. Nancy cherished time spent with her friends over the years and they shared many laughs through various parties and card clubs. She and Bill enjoyed many years of wintering in Clearwater Beach, Florida. She was passionate about voting for issues and individuals she believed to better the city, state, and country we live in and for relaxation, she enjoyed tending to the flowers around her home.

Nancy is survived and will be deeply missed by her children, Julie (Mark) Teynor, Jennifer (Randy Fuchs) Fischer, Jacqueline Roberts, and Jay (Rochelle Barker) Cook; grandchildren who she considered her pride and joy, Heather Mauritz, Deric Cook, Ashley (Dustin) Stauffer, Joshua (Cara Cherry) Teynor, Shannon Teynor, Kasey (Ben Brause) Teynor, Austin Fischer, Chelsey (Jason Bargeron) Fischer, Brandon (Kim) Roberts, Brittany (Michael) Kirkpatrick, Blaire (Shaun) Gelissen, Brock (Kathryn) Roberts, Aeriel Cook, Zoe Cook, and Zachery Hayse; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Cameron, Brooklyn, Emily, Ryder, Axle, Rory, Walker, Kinsley, Baker, Mercy, Emma, Eden, Reece, Rilley, Sophia, Townes, Cody, Collin, Samuel, and Jacob; sister, Shirley Forrest; and special niece, Leslie (Paul) Dundore.

In addition to her husband, Bill, Nancy was preceded in death by her oldest son, Jeffery Cook; sister, Mary Lou Roberts; and great-grandson, David Kirkpatrick.

Her family is planning on a celebration of life service and details will be announced in the future. It is their specific request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made payable to Tiffin Historic Trust or The Morrison House. These gifts can be mailed or dropped off at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio, 44820.

Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her tribute wall at www.wisefuneral.com.
