Nancy Cox Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Groce Funeral Home & Cremation Services - West Asheville on Nov. 25, 2025.
Nancy D. Cox, age 84, entered eternal rest on November 19, 2025. She was born on December 6, 1940, in Texas and later made Jacksonville, Florida, her home.
Nancy was known for her incredible cooking, her honesty, and the tough love that showed just how deeply she cared. Her kitchen was a sanctuary-where gospel music filled the air and her hands seasoned every meal with memories we'll never forget. Her cooking brought the family together, her honesty kept us grounded, and her tough love shaped generations.

She moved through life with a heart that loved deeply.

She didn't need soft words to show a gentle spirit-

her love lived in the truth she spoke,

in the strength she gave,

in the way she stood so others could learn to stand too.

Her faith guided her footsteps. She was a member of Colossians Baptist Church, where she was baptized on May 8, 1990.

She now reunites with those who went before her-her parents, Mr. James Cox, Sr. and Mrs. Ophelia Cox; five brothers; five sisters; her beloved daughter Eliza Ann Humphrey; her son Samuel Humphrey; her grandson Sydarrius Humphrey; and Jessie Humphrey Sr. Their souls greet her in glory.

Nancy leaves behind children who will forever cherish her memory: Jessie Humphrey Jr., Tasha Humphrey, and Latarsha Humphrey-each carrying pieces of her strength, her lessons, and her love.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Raynisha Carter (Frederick) Callahan, Marquita Humphrey, Kirrica Humphrey, Samuel Jr. (Sandy) Humphrey, Marguerite Humphrey, Kelvinesha Blackshear, Britney (Altwan) Manning, Martiana Graham, Kydarrius Humphrey, Leondra (Nicole) Wheeler, Curnetria Humphrey, Ceaira Humphrey, Ryneshia Jackson, Keyvonne Humphrey, Aaliyah Humphrey, Jahmon Humphrey, Kelis Jackson, Kayvon, and Sam.

Her light will continue to shine through her great-grandchildren: Shaniyah Bevel, Marquez Felton, Marquise Felton, Jaelin Bradley, Kha'Marii Manning, Milaniah Callahan, Kha'Manii Manning, Jha'Marii Bradley, Syncere McCleod, Mac'Kenzie Felton, Messiah Benton, Jordan Bradley, Dallas Campbell, Kyliah Humphrey, Samuel Humphrey, Isaiah Humphrey, Johnnier Walthour, James Humphrey, Altwan Manning Jr., Rynyiah Smith, Serenity Jackson, Tyreek, Darrielle, Ja'Mari, Alannah, Armoni, Nariyah, Gracelyn Humphrey, and Blessing Frazier, along with a host of other grandchildren, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends who loved her dearly.

Nancy's impact stretches far beyond her years. Her voice, her lessons, and her spirit will echo through generations. Her journey here is complete, but her legacy lives beautifully on.
