Nancy Englerth

BISMARCK - Nancy Englerth, 90, passed away on May 18, 2023, at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

A joint memorial service for Nancy and Edward Englerth (Ed died during the COVID epidemic, when funerals were not allowed) will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church 601 N 4th St. Bismarck, ND at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023.

Nancy Murdoch Englerth was born November 18, 1932 in Lidgerwood, ND, the daughter of Eldred Murdoch and Elizabeth Grinstead Murdoch. She attended grade school there but moved to Mandan where she finished her schooling. She attended Mandan High School and Bismarck Junior College in North Dakota. In 1954 she graduated from the University of Washington and in 1969 she received a MA from the University of Hawaii.

She married Edward J. Englerth, Jr. on September 14, 1953. They had two children, Alison, born in Massachusetts, and Rachel, born in Liberia, Africa.

Nancy spent many years teaching and living various places around the world: Washington state, Montana, North Dakota, Hawaii and Kenya and Liberia in Africa. She taught many different levels, from preschool to college. She and her family spent 10 years in Africa working for the Episcopal Church and World Neighbors.

In 1974, after returning from Africa, she began working for Meyer Broadcasting Company and remained there until her retirement. In her later professional years, she completed a Computer Information major at the University of Mary and taught beginning database and spreadsheet courses at Bismarck State College.

Nancy was an active member of Zonta Club, attending three international conferences in Canada, Helsinki and Hong Kong. She was also a member of St. George's Episcopal Church and participated in the Wednesday Night Prayer Group for many years.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband. She is survived by her two cherished daughters, Alison Harries of Bismarck, North Dakota and Rachel Fay of Edgewood, New Mexico; and four adored grandchildren.

In honor of Nancy, memorials are preferred to Gbarnga Lutheran Mission at www.gbarngamission.com.
