Nancy Ann Fankhauser, 74, of Madison, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Emporia, KS.

She was born February 7, 1951, in Emporia, the daughter of Harold and Wilma (Greenwood) Fankhauser. She attended the Madison schools graduating from Madison High School with the Class of 1969. She attended the University of Kansas from 1969 to 1973 where she played on the KU Women's basketball team from 1969 to 1972. She was unable to play her Senior year due to practice teaching, which was common in those days. She played on the KU team that finished 6th nationally in 1972 in the NCAA/AIAW Tournement. Her team was inducted into the KU Hall of Fame and her name is on the wall in Allen Field House. She graduated from KU in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree. She taught school in McClouth, KS from 1973 to 1979 where she taught Physical Education for K-12. She was head girls coach for both Jr. and Sr. High Volleyball , Basketball, and Track. She earned her Master's Degree in Education at KU in 1978 and a Master's Degree in Physical Education from Wichita State University in 1980. From 1980 to 1981 she interned at Oklahoma State University in Sports Administration. She was the assistant AD for women's sports at Illinois State University from 1981-87.

She was in sales/marketing in Illinois from 1987 – 2008, when she moved back Kansas and was in sales/marketing in Emporia until her retirement in 2016. She served 4 terms on the K-Club Board of Directors for Kansas Sports Alumni from 2012 to 2016.

She was a huge sports fan and her love and loyalty for the University of Kansas was unwavering.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Cindy Raber.

She leaves her brother, Tony Fankhauser, Madison, KS; nieces Trish Hoelting (Eric) and Lisa Sanchez (Vince); nephew Scott Fankhauser (Mariah); many great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Memorial graveside services will be held 1:30 P.M. Thursday, September 25, 2025, at No. 8 Cemetery east of Madison.

Memorial contributions may be made to MEAF (Madison Education Assistance Fund) and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, PO Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
