Obituary of Nancy M Gage
Nancy M. Gage, 74, of Nokomis, FL, formerly Wenham, MA, went Home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. She was born on October 17, 1948 in Beverly, MA, the youngest daughter of the late George Valpey Jr. and Elizabeth Bushen (May) Gage.
Nancy was a 1966 graduate of Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School in Hamilton, MA. She held many administrative positions over the years. One favorite, (and the source of many stories and shenanigans), was when she joined the medical records team at Salem Hospital where her favorite accomplice, her Aunt Marjorie May, worked as a nurse. This is also where she met the love of her life, the late Paul Carbrey (m. 1974-1981). In 1981, Nancy moved to Port Charlotte, FL where her parents relocated. She worked at the Venice Nursing home until 1989. Another notable workplace was the Days Inn from 2000-2009. There she met friends who became her Florida family and support: Carmen, Steve, Jennifer, Pam and Teddy.
Nancy will always be remembered for her love of reading and cats. In Nancy's life, there was only one thing that could replace a book: the next book. If a cat came to visit while reading, all the better. Nancy spent many hours at the library. Her interest in genealogy started when she was very young "visiting the relatives" in various family gravesites around New England. She researched the family tree with great enthusiasm. Her record keeping skills were put to good use – one year she gifted family members with a packet of information which included family trees (some tracing back to before the revolutionary war), and photographs of the family members. Nancy was also quite the story teller; she remembered so many details from family history. She fondly recalled stories from Halifax Canada and Bushen Island relatives and their visits.
Nancy was talented at the art of cross stitching and enjoyed making (or finding) Christmas gifts for each and every friend and family member. She was extremely generous; no one was ever forgotten. Relationships were very important to her. Nancy would never hesitate to step in to help anyone who needed it.
Nancy will be laid to rest with her parents at the Charlotte Memorial Gardens in Punta Gorda, FL. Nancy is preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert C. Gage, and John R Gage and survived by her sister, Barbara A. Myers of Beverly MA and sister-in-law, Mary Neefe Gage of Grove City, PA. She also leaves a host of beloved nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate to know her.
You are encouraged to share fond memories and expressions of sympathy.
With gratitude,
Her family
