Nancy (Ann) Gallagher, R.N.

Nancy Gallagher, 87, of Moosic, died unexpectedly on Tuesday evening. Born in Moosic, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Cummings Loftus, and was preceded in death by her brother, Ned Loftus.

Nancy graduated from Marywood Seminary and Moses Taylor Hospital School of Nursing. She was a dedicated school nurse at Moosic Elementary and later Riverside High School for over 25 years.

Laughter could always be overheard from her nurses' office which served as the social hub for the faculty and staff. Many of her lifelong friendships were formed within those walls. Later, at Riverside, she would be remembered as an approachable confidant to many troubled teens who crossed her path. Wherever she travelled, she would be recognized and revered by former students.

Nancy was the original "Superwoman." She juggled motherhood, career, and night school with determination and moxie. She loved music, she loved to dance, and more than anything she loved to laugh.

Nancy was, first and foremost, a dedicated wife and mother. She treasured her children and she especially loved her role as Nonny. She had a vivacious personality and she made friends everywhere she went. For 26 years of their retirement, Joe and Nancy had the opportunity to travel extensively, and would spend winters in Boynton Beach, enjoying the company of old friends from PA and new neighbors from South Florida.

Most of all, she loved the time with her grandchildren as she watched them grow and celebrated their birthdays and graduations.

In addition to Joe, her husband of 63 years, she is survived by her four children, Mary Glidewell and husband, Hugh, of Atlanta, Ga.; Tricia Colan and husband, Jeff, of Marietta, Ga.; John and wife, Diane, of Stratford, Conn.; and Joseph and wife, Mary Jane, of Landenberg, Pa. She was also blessed with nine grandchildren, Georgia Beauregard, Gracie Glidewell, Ryan Gallagher, Alyssa Gallagher, Janna Miller, Kara Gallagher, Connor Gallagher, and Sadie and Sabrina Colan; and a great-grandson, Charlie Gallagher. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews along with her devoted friend to the very end, Mary Giglio.

Due to the current extraordinary health conditions, Mass will be held privately at the request of the family. Arrangements, Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, PA 18505.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph's Center of Scranton in memory of Nancy: stjosephscenter.org.
