Nancy Griego Obituary

My mother peacefully left this world on June 18, 2023, while napping, and woke up in the arms of her husband on Father's Day.

Nancy Griego was born in Madera, California. She was one of the eight children of Ygnacia and Alberto Rivera. Nancy grew up in a traditional Mexican household with an emphasis on family values and a strong belief in Jehovah God - values that she instilled in her children.

In 1956, she married my dad, William "Duke" Griego, while he was enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. The following year they started their family with their first born Mary Jane, followed by April and lastly Albert. Or so they thought, as 17 years later they were blessed with the birth of Chanel.

My mom was involved in all of our lives and all of our activities from sports, to racing, and traveling. She found lots of Joy taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of her time working with MJUSD as an assistant for the migrant education program, and was a proud member of the Operating Engineers union. We are fortunate to have had such a loving mother.

My parents moved to Yuba County in the early 60's to open their first restaurant in Marysville, then later moved their business to the Olivehurst and Linda area. My parents lived and worked together for 57 years, until my father's passing. Even though she had retired from the family business, you would often see her at Duke's Diner visiting with friends and customers, enjoying a meal with her sister or grandchildren, or checking in to ensure that things were running up to her high standards.

My mother is survived by us, her four children: Mary Jane (Jeff), April (Scott), Albert (Deborah), and Chanel (Jason); 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; Siblings Rosa Beltran, Connie Griego, Manuel Rivera, and Toni Lopez.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William "Duke" Griego; both of her parents; and siblings Lupe Navarro, Tony Rivera, and Peter Rivera.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 7, 2023. in the chapel at Sierra View.

The Griego family would like to thank all who reached out with prayers, calls, and messages during this difficult time.
