Mrs. Groover was born December 15, 1939 to Noble and Anne Grissom Johnson of Tuscumbia. She passed away at her home on December 10, 2025, just five days before her 86th birthday.
Mrs. Groover spent most of her childhood in
Decatur, AL and especially enjoyed being a majorette in the Decatur High Band. She loved marching, dancing, and enjoying fun times with her friends. She met the love of her life shortly after high school on a blind date, Ike Groover. They married in Tuscaloosa while he was still in college and were married for almost 66 years.
Mrs. Groover was raised as a Baptist but converted to Methodism after marriage. She was a faithful member and supporter of the church from the time she and her husband, Ike were married in Tuscaloosa, to their time in Montgomery, and for 56 years at Hartselle First. During that time, she supported the church in many ways, most especially as being a gifted Sunday School teacher for 45 years. Additionally, she was instrumental in establishing what is known as the Faith House, which provides a place and means to support the Good Samaritan Ministry which gives help and aid to many in our community.
Mrs. Groover was a loving mother, wife, sister, and friend to many. She thrived on helping others and offering an encouraging word. She loved to sing and cook and most of all, she loved the Lord with all her heart. She enjoyed hosting teas, showers, and meals for special occasions. She always invited the new Methodist preacher in town for a dinner with family to welcome him into the church family. In later life, she started a Thursday night dinner for special family meals. In addition, she and her husband, Ike, hosted several missionary families throughout the years. She was awarded the Thomas M.Guyton Humanitarian Award in 2022.
