Nancy Gundersdorff, 89, of Paramus, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Little Christmas. She had prayed for a death without suffering. God granted her prayers. Before retiring, Nancy worked for B.N.K. Restoration Company in
Clifton, NJ as an Office Manager. Nancy was extremely outgoing. She would often talk to strangers in line at the checkout of a variety of stores she frequented. She enjoyed shopping at Stew Leonard's because she got to know the people that worked the Deli and Prepared food section and they would make sure she was able to get the food the way she wanted it prepared. She was a very particular eater. Her Father and Mother indulged her food requests growing up and into adulthood. Decimo Salvatore and Carmela Gorgone preceded her in death along with her brother Salvatore Gorgone (she was Aunt to Patti Gorgone and Sally Peterson) and another sibling, who died proximate to their birth. Nancy was also Aunt to Gale Gundersdorff, and her sisters Debra and Janet, children of Miki and George Gundersdorff, who preceded her in death.
When talking with family her most common question was "Why?". She was innately curious but had a love/hate relationship with the technology of modern life. Microsoft was her nemesis. Her family and many friends provided "technical support" for her technological challenges. Many thanks to Eric, Mike, Sam, her other neighbors, and all the others that helped her in her later years. Special thanks to Doctor for working with her.
Nancy was the cherished mother of her daughter, Cheryl Gundersdorff (
Toms River, NJ) and her son, James Gundersdorff and his wife Jennifer S Gundersdorff (
Durham, NC). She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Gundersdorff (Captain with the Bergen County Sheriff's Department). She did many kind things for us over the years. She was our advocate. She was the first one to tell us we'd made a mistake, according to her view of the world. We did our best to support her in return, even when we disagreed with her decisions. She was the grandmother of Thomas M. Gundersdorff and Jennifer C. Gundersdorff.
When Jimmy and Cheryl were in school, she volunteered at a variety of school functions. Bingo at Our Lady of the Visitation was her favorite volunteer activity. She did her best to look out for those in and out of her circle of family and friends. In retirement, she found her way to playing Bridge until Covid interrupted everything. She loved going with her Mother to Atlantic City, other locals and venues. They did it so much Grandma developed tendonitis from the slot machines back when you actually had to pull the handle. She always enjoyed card games and games in general especially Rummy Q's and Candy Crush.
As her children, we learned to call each day. If we didn't call by the expected time, she'd call down the phone tree to find us. We heard, "I thought something happened!", quite often in our lives. We will miss those calls!
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 South Farview Avenue,
Paramus, NJ. Entombment Services will be on Thursday, January 15, at 2:45 pm in the Chapel at Garden of Memories, 300 Soldier Hill Rd, Township of Washington, NJ.
