Nancy Hanson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 3, 2025.
Nancy Marie Pearson Hanson: born January 19, 1935, died September 28, 2025. Preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Rev. G. Calvin Hanson (married 1954); mother and father, Hugo and Lillian (Formoe) Pearson; brother, John Pearson; sister-in-law, Jean Hanson; maternal aunt, Harriett ("Toody") Melloche; and beloved niece, Susan Pearson. Survived by children Tim (Joan) Hanson; Mark (Elena) Hanson; Karen (Andrew) Riebel; and her truly adored and cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren: Michael (Sonam) Hanson; Kathryn (Paul) Fling; Nathaniel (Bridget) Hanson; Olivia Hanson; Roxanne Riebel; Calvin Riebel; Brynn and Olin Fling; and her beloved niece, Amy Pearson Clapp. Nancy was a proud graduate of West High School (class of 1952) and the University of Minnesota (BSN 1958). After working as a public health nurse in Robbinsdale and starting her family, she went back to school at the U of M and in the early 1970's became one of the first nurse practitioners licensed in the state of Minnesota. After graduating, she began a long (32 years) and very happy career at Hennepin County Medical Center, where she worked in the outpatient pediatric clinic. She loved children more than anything and devoted her life to their health and well-being. She was an admired and respected colleague, teacher and caregiver. She was kind, generous, whip-smart, funny and tough as nails - at work and at home. She was a long-time member of Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, where she and Cal and the children developed lasting memories and life-long friendships. She loved her family beyond measure and made sure they knew it every single day. Special thanks to caregivers Shannon Reagan and Jennifer Miller from Right At Home, and the wonderful staff at Jones Harrison Home, where she spent the last six months of her life after a debilitating stroke in March 2025. During her last days, when she could not otherwise speak, Nancy worked very hard to say the words "thank you" to every nurse and CNA who entered her room. Memorial service planned for December. Memorials preferred to the Hennepin Healthcare Foundation, or please take time to read a book to a child - it was her favorite thing to do.
