Nancy Flynn Hope, 71, wife of the late Robert M. Hope, Sr., passed away on March 13, 2026 at her home after her hard fought and courageous battle against acute myeloid leukemia. She was surrounded by loved ones.
Born on August 3, 1954 in Union, SC, she lived a life full of love, laughter and faith. She was a graduate of Union High School and the University of South Carolina, where she was a member of the first women’s golf team. Her most meaningful career was that of a homemaker, wife, mother and ultimately as a grandmother. She celebrated life with family and friends daily and was more than willing to engage in conversation at any time or occasion. She was always able to find time to talk about the accomplishments of her children and her grandchildren. Her household was always filled with love and laughter, even through her husband’s illness and through her own illness, which she faced with quiet confidence, grace and a smile. She was known to keep the hospital staff entertained when she went in for treatments.
Nancy loved to research family, work in her garden and enjoy the outdoors. She followed sports and politics constantly and made sure that the television was on so that she was kept well informed. She especially loved her five grandchildren. As she battled cancer these last few weeks, she was determined to celebrate her eldest grandchild’s birthday on March 7. And she did. After that celebration she relaxed and let God take over.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Robert Meek Hope, Sr.; parents Phil and Carrie “Smitty” Flynn; and sister Cathy. She is survived by her children Nancy Hope Goodbar (Neal) of Clinton SC, Robert Hope Jr (Rebecca) of Union, David Hope of Union; grandchildren Katie Hope Goodbar, Henry Goodbar, Elizabeth Goodbar, Maddox Hope, Isaac Hope. She is also survived by her brother Philip Flynn III (Karen) of Lexington, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harold and Jane Hope of Charlotte, and brother-in-law Charlie Jordan of Florence and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Sunday March 15, 2026, at 2:30pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery Union SC with the Reverend Alston Flynn Lippert conducting the service. Family and Friends are invited to visit and meet the family after the service at the residence 161 Hope Road, Union SC.
Memorials may be made to the Hospitality House in Charlotte or the local chapter of Meals on Wheels. The family would like to give special thanks to her care team, Dr. Nilay Shah, Dr. Tondre Buck, and the Oncology staff at Levine Cancer Institute and the Gibbs Cancer Center. Locally, we extend gratitude to Paige, Michelle and the staff at Union Medical Center
