Nancy S. Hurff, age 88 of Sewell, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 20, 2025. Born in Swedesboro to the late Orville Steffen and Estel Mae Rile, she graduated from Glassboro High School Class of 1954. While at Glassboro High, Nancy was a New Jersey State Champion Baton Twirler in the senior division, a three-year head majorette, selected as a New Jersey Girl's State Delegate and a recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Award presented by the governor. She briefly toured with the USO and twirled in local parades and events. Nancy taught baton twirling for many years after graduation and several of her students twirled in local parades.
She married John R. Hurff, Jr. on February 16, 1957 and together raised three boys. Nancy worked for Oral Ledden & Sons in Sewell, where she was an administrative assistant. She was an active member at Mt. Zion and Barnsboro United Methodist Churches and loved their congregation and Pastor. Nancy enjoyed singing solos during church services at Christmas and Easter. She also took several Bible Study classes.
She cherished family gatherings in her home, which always included a wide range of delicious food and desserts. Nancy made the best homemade apple pie! She never forgot to send birthday, anniversary and thank you cards to family and friends. One of her favorite things was dancing with Jack. Nancy also loved many other activities including horseback riding, roller skating, ice skating and even clay shooting in the horse pasture with the family. In her later years she enjoyed decorating her home at Christmas, watching the horses, deer and turkeys in the pasture, as well as reading romance novels. She cherished vacations with Jack in the Western United States. They visited Yellow Stone National Park, Jackson Hole, Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, the Grand Canyon and many other National Parks. Nancy also liked to take day trips with Jack to the Jersey Shore for a fresh seafood dinner.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Jack, three sons: Stephen Hurff & his wife, Amy of Cape Coral, FL; Scott Hurff & his wife, Sue of Sewell, NJ; and Paul Hurff & his wife, Lorraine of Gloucester City, NJ; 14 grandchildren: Scott Hurff Jr., Jason Hurff, Crystal Clark, Robert Swain, Melissa Ricciardelli, Nick Hurff, Marli Stachowski, Connor Hurff, Stephanie DiEmidio, Taylor Hurff, Michael Hurff, Eric Hurff, Laura Hurff, and Megan Hurff; 13 great grandchildren; and her brother, Kenneth Steffen & his wife, Audrey.
