Nancy Z. Jones, 86, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2026. She was born on March 2, 1939, in Orlando, FL, and was the daughter of the late Harriet Elisabeth Lyon Zercher.
She grew up in Virginia and resided in Colonial Heights, where she met her husband and married him in January of 1961. She devoted her life to her family and home. Her entrepreneurial spirit aligned to support her husband who was a prominent home builder in Colonial Heights. Together they also built a cottage in Sandbridge, Virginia Beach, which she enjoyed immensely and called home for the last few decades of her life. As an avid reader, she loved mysteries, and enjoyed traveling overseas, bridge club, and puzzles. Her compassion especially extended to animals whom she loved deeply and treated with gentleness and care.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Norris E. Jones, Jr. She is survived by her loving children, Elizabeth Jones Guidry (Jon) and Gregory Earl Jones (Suzanne); her grandchildren, Jeremy Jones, Skylar Guidry, Lauren Guidry, and Hannah Guidry; her sister-in-law, Jacqueline Jones Greer; and nieces, Jane Fowler and Susan Lukeman (Tim).
A graveside service will be held for immediate family in Sunset Memorial Park in Chester, VA. Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local SPCA, or other animal welfare organizations are appreciated.
Nancy had a gift for making strangers feel seen and appreciated, brightening ordinary moments with warmth and sincerity.
