Nancy Joan King passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in Memorial Hospital, Marysville, OH surrounded by her family. She is now free of the pain that CREST syndrome brought to her body for the last several years.
Nancy was born to Emil Lloyd Richards and Anna Josephine (Richardson) Richards on April 22, 1944, in Bellefontaine, OH. Nancy is preceded in death by brothers John and Daniel Richards and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ronald and Margaret (Pegg) Moffit. She is survived by a brother Charles (Barb) Richards of Vinton, OH, sisters Susie (Charles) Coons and Karen Fryman both of West Liberty, OH, and sister-in-law’s Cleo Richards of Nebraska and Deb Richards of Bellefontaine, OH.
On October 12, 1963, Nancy married James L. King in Middleburg, OH and he survives. They celebrated 60 years of marriage together. They spent many years traveling together visiting all 50 states.
Nancy is survived by children Kenneth W. King of Bellefontaine, OH, and Denise J. (Robert D.) Painter of West Liberty, OH; grandchildren: Joshua L. (Melissa Gilbert) King of Bellefontaine, Jeremiah W. King stationed with the U.S.A.F. in Montgomery, AL, Bethany (Jerry) Nelson of Huntsville, OH, and Sarah (Michael) Willoby of Columbus, OH; and great-grandson Gabriel Brooks Nelson.
Nancy worked at Firestone in Bellefontaine before taking time off to raise her children. Her career took her to the U.S. Postal service for 29 years. She spent 25 of those as the Postmaster in Middleburg, OH. She was very proud of that Post Office and was instrumental in getting it to its present location. She retired from that career in 2004. Her cars proudly carried the zip code as their license plate.
Nancy enjoyed traveling be it in a camper, cruises or bus trips. She loved talking travel be it her trip or yours. She also loved being a grandma and spending time with her grandchildren.
She attended the West Liberty United Church of Christ.
Pastor Karen Griswold will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 11am at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, West Liberty. The visitation will be on Monday, July 29, at the funeral home from 4-7pm. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
