Nancy Lee Scott Voltz, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away, Monday, September 8, 2025, at the age of 71, surrounded by her family. Born on May 28, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Nancy was the daughter of MaryLou and Harrison Scott, and grew up alongside her siblings Sue (Rick) Gould, Lee Scott, and Amy (Shana) Scott.
From the beginning, Nancy had a heart for people. She possessed a quiet strength, kind words, and deep compassion for others. On September 14, 1974, she married her high school sweetheart, Michael Voltz, and together they built a home filled with love and laughter. Their marriage was a true partnership, lasting more than 50 years and setting an everlasting example for their children and grandchildren.
Nancy found her calling in nursing, graduating from Pine Rest School of Practical Nursing and dedicating her career to caring for women through pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond. She walked beside families during some of the most tender moments of their lives, offering both skill and comfort. To thousands of women, she was more than a nurse- she was a friend, a reassuring voice, and a source of strength.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She was the devoted mother of Kathryn (Brian) Gilbert, Lisa (Brian) Dean, and Scott (Alicia) Voltz, and the adoring grandmother of Aiden, Emily, Harrison, Ellie, Max, and Toby. Nancy poured herself wholeheartedly into motherhood and grandmotherhood, celebrating every milestone, showing up for every moment, and making each child feel cherished.
Nancy's life was marked by generosity and service. She never hesitated to put others before herself, whether it was through a home-cooked meal, her famous chocolate chip cookies, or a comforting conversation. She embodied kindness, dedication, and an openhearted love that drew people in and left them better for having known her. She has left behind a family who will miss her desperately but who will eat dessert first and will carry forward her example of love, humor, and unwavering resilience.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Friday, September 12, 2025, at Cascade Christian Church with visitation one-hour prior followed by a Celebration of Nancy's life at Beer City Bread Co., 2650-D E Beltline Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Cascade Christian Church, 2829 Thornapple River Dr. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook SE Suite 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546-5783, or Van Andel Institute for pancreatic cancer research, 333 Bostwick Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
