Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scot Ward Funeral Services - Conyers on Dec. 26, 2025.
Nancy Ann Markovich was born on December 25, 1943, in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and passed away on December 24, 2025, in
Conyers, Georgia.
Nancy lived a life marked by deep faith, generous service, and profound respect for the dignity of every human being. Her spiritual journey was rich and expansive. Baptized several times throughout her life-most recently in 1998-she remained devoted to her understanding of an all-loving Creator God, a faith she shared freely through both word and action.
For much of her life, Nancy served faithfully within the Bahá'í Faith, including seven years of service in Haifa, where she is especially remembered for her contribution to the building project of the Bahá'í World Center on Mount Carmel. She was widely known within the Bahá'í community-and far beyond it-for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to a life of service.
In later years, Nancy reconnected with her Christian roots. Her last worship service was celebrated on Easter Sunday in 2022 at Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal, a moment that reflected not a departure from her faith, but its fulfillment in love, reverence, and unity.
Nancy treated all people with dignity and respect. She made friends everywhere she went-whether with lifelong companions or with children passing her on the street or in the grocery store. She is remembered by countless friends across communities and traditions as kind, loving, generous, and deeply devoted to service.
Nancy was the beloved mother of her daughter, Kona Lisa Mahu, and a cherished grandmother to four grandsons: Christopher Reid Henderson (39), Jonathan Miles Nuri Henderson (37), Edward Andrew Robert Barber (34), and Matthew William Presley Barber (32). She also leaves behind five great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, each a living continuation of her legacy.
She is survived by her daughter; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Susan Abbott-Jamieson; Molly Abbott Cavanaugh, her husband Pat Cavanaugh, their daughters Heather K. Long and Katie Elliscue; Sally Foster Abbott de Posada, her husband Jose Antonio Posada Ugalde, and their children Demetrio Abbott Posada, Olivia Abbott Posada, and Bianca Abbott Posada.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie Ann McLynn Abbott; her adoptive father, Norman Oliver Abbott; and her brother, Jonathan Ransom Abbott.
In accordance with her wishes, Nancy Ann Markovich will be laid to rest in a brief outdoor burial service conducted with Baha'i religious rites.
