John Gibbs

John (Andy) Anthony Gibbs, age 78, of Locust Grove, Georgia, passed away on

February 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on

January 30, 1948.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Coleman White Gibbs Sr. and Mary

Sprayberry Gibbs, and by his brother, Jim Gibbs. He is survived by his

beloved wife, Nancy Gibbs; his brother and sister in-law, Whitey and Vicki

Gibbs; and his children, Nicki and Jason Ponder, Dustin and Kristi Gibbs,

and Kacie and Will Rice.

Andy was a proud and devoted grandfather to Brady, Makenna, Sydney and

Tyler, Lorelai, Troy, Addison, Ella Kate, Liam, Zoey, and Coen, and a

cherished great-grandfather to Easton and Madden.

He is also survived by his aunts, Barbara Sprayberry and Pat Edwards, and

numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He graduated from Southwest DeKalb High School in 1966, where he

distinguished himself as a state champion wrestler. Following high school,

John proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his

military service, he dedicated more than 50 years to Gibbs Garage, the

family-run auto mechanic shop, where he was known for his strong work

ethic, integrity, and commitment to his community. Andy retired in 2023,

leaving behind a legacy of hard work and honest craftsmanship.

Outside of work, Andy was an avid golfer who enjoyed countless hours on the

course. He treasured time spent with his family, especially at the lake and

in the mountains, places where many lasting memories were made. Above all,

Andy was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, and

great-grandfather whose family was the center of his life.

Andy will be remembered for his loyalty, strength, and the deep love he had

for those closest to him. His legacy lives on through the many lives he

touched.
