O. E. Johnston Jr.

Ovid Edgar Johnston, Jr., age 93, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Wellstar Spalding Hospital.

Mr. Johnston was born in Conley, Georgia, on May 16, 1932, son of the late Ovid Sr. and Grace Johnston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Spruill Johnston, and sisters, Otelia Howell (Howard), Elizabeth Smith (Charles), Louise Dooley (Fred), Helen Maddox (Hoyd), and Mary Johnston. Mr. Johnston was a deacon of Brooks Baptist Church.

Mr. Johnston began his own dairy in August of 1949 in Conley, GA shortly after graduating Southwest Dekalb High School. When he relocated the farm in 1968 to Griffin GA, the farm was named Green Acres Dairy Farm until he retired in November 2000.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Melinda J. Martin, Myra J. Roberts (Eddie), Wendell Johnston (Cindy), and Michelle Lassiter (Ron); grandchildren, Brandon Martin (Monica), Allison Hammond (Mark), Zeke Roberts, Hunter Johnston, Hayley Johnston, Lindsey Ridings (Jonmarc), Reba Sampson (Cameron), and Dale Lassiter (Christina); great-grandchildren, Noah Martin, Maddie Martin, Avery Martin, Kiley Hammond, Collin Hammond, Addie Roberts, Juniper Ridings, Ezra Ridings, Judah Lassiter, and Laila Lassiter; son-in-love, John Hinesley (Terri); son-in-law, Calton Martin; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff and medical care team at Family Medical and Internal Medicine for their attentive care and kindness.

Visitation with the family will be on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, followed by a service at 2:00 pm in the chapel. Reverend Brandon Martin and Reverend Eddie Roberts will officiate. Interment will be at Tanner Baptist Cemetery in Ellenwood, Georgia.
