Nancy Marlow Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory on Dec. 15, 2025.
Nancy Marlow, 70, of La Porte, passed at 12:01 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Powers Health Community Hospital, Munster. Nancy's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and her ability to touch the lives of everyone she encountered.
She was born August 16, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Richard and Beverly (Keleher) Nunn.
On June 21, 2010 she married Garry Marlow who survives.
Nancy is also survived by her brother-in-law, Mark Votava; three nephews, Benjamin, David, and Bob Votava.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Becky Votava.
Born into a life of curiosity and joy, Nancy dedicated her professional career to serving her country through her work at Homeland Security. Her role allowed her to meet a diverse array of individuals, and she had the remarkable gift of remembering the name of every person she ever met. This unique ability made her not just an exceptional colleague but also a beloved friend to many.
Nancy's commitment to service extended beyond her professional life as she was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 40 years. Her dedication to the organization and its members was unwavering, and she provided support and encouragement to countless individuals on their journey to recovery. Nancy's involvement in AA was not just a reflection of her own strength but also of her deep desire to uplift others.
Her interests were as varied as they were passionate. Nancy had an enduring love for animals, especially dogs, and she found great joy in the companionship they provided. Her home was a sanctuary for her beloved pets, and her care for them was a reflection of her nurturing spirit. Alongside her love for animals, Nancy had a green thumb and took immense pleasure in tending to her plants, which flourished under her attentive care.
Nancy's personality was often described as the best one could ever encounter. Her warmth, wit, and kindness were the hallmarks of her character, and she had the rare ability to make everyone around her feel special and valued. She was also a lover of languages and spoke French fluently, a skill that served her well in her many travels.
Travel was one of Nancy's greatest passions, and she often embarked on adventures with her sister. Together, they explored the rich cultures and histories of Europe, with memorable trips to France, Italy, and Amsterdam. These journeys were not just vacations but also opportunities for Nancy to engage with the world in the most authentic way possible.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2025 at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, with Pastor Joseph Watterson officiating. A visitation and viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until time of service.
