Nancy Meyer (Moseng)
GipGip Biinashii Gonûmuk Ikwe - "Night Singing Bird Woman"
"Nanners"
"the Kahuna"
June 16, 1947 - October 28, 2025
Nancy Meyer, born Nancy Moseng on June 16, 1947, in St. Paul, Minnesota, journeyed back to the Ancestral Fire from Southview Hospital in Edina, Minnesota, surrounded by love and care. We were graced to know her for 78 short years.
Never straying far from the Rice Street neighborhood - Nancy was the beloved wife of the late Dave Meyer, with whom she shared nearly 50 years of love, laughter, and partnership. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Candy Meyer (Gary Kubiszewski); cherished Nana to Miranda Lestrange (Meyer) and honorary grandson Nico (Stormy) Rabbia; and incredibly proud great-grandmother to Benjamin Espinoza. She is dearly missed by her faithful kitty, Gus, her parrot Cairo and her closest friends - Melede Powers, Nancy Johnson, Pam Sherrard, and Rachel Olson - Many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as countless others whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; her parents, Doreen (Parisian) and Ernie Moseng; her godson, Patrick Moseng; "adopted" son Vinny Brown, her siblings Carol Rauchwarter, Gordy and Jeffrey Moseng; her Sister In Law Brenda Moseng, Brothers in law Tom (Gloria) and Bob (Dawn) Meyer, her beloved mini poodle, Dudley and guinea Pig, Peach.
A proud member of the White Earth Anishinaabe Nation, Nancy carried her spirit name 'GipGip Biinashii Gonûmuk Ikwe' - "Night Singing Bird Woman" - with great pride. Reconnecting with her Ojibwe roots and traditions was a meaningful part of her later years.
At 19, Nancy graduated from Ritter Beauty School and began her lifelong career as a hairdresser, known for her skill, creativity, and warmth behind the chair. Even while pursuing her work, she lovingly cared for her family - famously waking at 3 a.m. each morning to make Dave's lunch before his long days of pouring concrete for Cemstone.
Nancy will be remembered for her quick wit, radiant charisma, and kind heart. She loved Celine Dion, a good cigarette, forcing the local watering holes on Rice Street to stock Schmidt beer even though she was the only one who drank it, watching HGTV and above all else - loving deeply and unconditionally. As her family says, "just know that if you loved her, she loved you too."
