July 11, 1938-January 27, 2025
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved matriarch,
Nancy; who passed away peacefully, in the early morning hours of January 27, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Nancy was born on July 11, 1938, the very way she lived her life- on her terms and the way she wanted to. Often described as difficult by her parents when she was younger, Nancy was happier outside, running through a cow field barefoot than she was putting on a dress. Her love of being outside created a lasting fondness for all of God's creatures and she was often found feeding random wildlife, much to the amusement of her grandchildren.
Nancy attended Binghamton North High School and was affectionately known as, "Hutch". She graduated in 1956. She was involved in several different clubs including Honor Society, Student Council, Yearbook, Jr. Red Cross, Literary Club, and graduated with honors. After high school, she became a vocational stenographer, which led to a successful career as a medical receptionist at Dr. Datta's office in Windsor, NY until her retirement.
Nancy met the love of her life in 1953. With Nancy being younger she knew Don wouldn't be interested if he knew her real age. She did what she considered the most logical thing and fibbed about how old she was. They had their first date at Niko's on Court St. and went every year on their dating anniversary until its time of closure. They were wed on September 29, 1957, and were blessed with 67 wonderful years of marriage.
Nancy created a lifetime of lasting memories for her family. Summers at the family cottage, river trips, special breakfasts, Easter egg hunts and baskets, the perfect Christmas gift, trips to the Afton Fair, calling each one of us the morning of our birthday to sing, random bowls of cut cantaloupe, countless cups of hot chocolate and fresh popped popcorn, life talks at the dining room table, and attending every event she was able to; it's endless how she showed her love and made each of us feel special. She always answered the phone when you called, no matter the time. She was most proud of the family she and Don created and bragged about everyone's accomplishments. She would say she was lucky to have us but we're the lucky ones.
Nancy enjoyed the things she did with zest. In her younger years, you would occasionally find her enjoying a drink and a poker game or dancing the night away. You could always count on her watching Jeopardy! and usually having the correct answer. She enjoyed a good mystery and instilled her love of reading into 3 generations. Her music taste was vast; you never knew if a polka or the Rolling Stones would be playing when you walked into the house. Sunshine, her flowers and plants, and a good debate were a few things she enjoyed. And there never was a wrong time for hot chocolate or ice cream. She showed kindness to everyone and the only time you heard her yell was when Don turned his hearing aids off. She was as witty as she was sharp and would often leave us laughing.
Nancy believed in endless second chances, forgiveness, and not being so quick to judge. The only thing she loved nearly as much as her family was her Lord and savior. Nancy attended church faithfully, lived by the Bible, and was a member of the Afton United Methodist Church.
Her beloved son, Jamie Nagle; parents, Theodore and Helen Hutchings, brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Marilyn Hutchings, all predecease her.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Donald Nagle; son, Chris and Jody Nagle, daughter, Kathy and Jim Dickinson, and daughter in-law, Brenda Kane; 7 grandchildren, Rachel Martin, Kara and Brad Weaver, Shelby Nagle and Chris Hull, Logan and Jayne Nagle, Spencer Nagle and Alyssa Mushalla, Autumn Nagle and Chad Kunze, and Jacey Nagle; great-grandchildren, James and Aubrey Howe, Cameron and Phin Hull; several nieces, nephews, and her beloved cats. Our days may be a little bleaker, but our stars are a little brighter now.
