Nancy Rawls Obituary

Nancy White Rawls was called home to the Lord on June 17, 2022, after a long struggle with dementia. She passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side. Nancy was born to Howard & Elizabeth White on February 23, 1943, with her twin sister Joan, at Norfolk General Hospital, in Virginia. She grew up on West 38th Street, with her brother Wesley & sister Joan, & later graduated from Granby High School in 1961. Nancy was employed in the mortgage industry when she met her husband Bill Rawls. They were later married in December of 1968, & were blessed with their daughter, Stacey L. Rawls & their son, William A. Rawls, Jr.

They resided in Virginia Beach, where lifelong friends surrounded them in the neighborhood of Riverton. In addition to being a loving mother & home maker she worked as a clerk at the Virginia Beach Treasurer's office for many years. She was known for her love of family & friends, & was always willing to lend a helping hand to local & community events. Nancy also had a fondness for games & was part of a long standing bridge & mahjong group of close friends. She loved her rose plants & surrounded herself with the beauty of nature. She always had a strong calling to the beach. Where she spent many a summer with love ones along the shorelines of Virginia & North Carolina. When Nancy wasn't busy with work, gardening, or her day to day, she enjoyed her leisure with home & garden magazines, soap operas, music & movies. Nancy focused her love & attention on raising her children & providing a home to many beloved animals. She had a passion for cooking, which was passed on to her by both her parents. Many of meals & dishes where lovingly prepared by Nancy. Whether it was her famous potato salad, soups, chili, M&M cookies or just a simple bag lunch for her children going to school, it was the love in her preparation that brought her family together.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Howard & Elizabeth White & her two siblings Wesley White & Joan Krepp. She is survived by her husband Bill Rawls, daughter Stacey Rawls, son William Rawls, daughter- in-law Trina Rawls, brother-in-laws Mac Rawls & Joe Krepp, sister-in-law Ruth White, nephews Troy Krepp & Michael Rawls & nieces Susan Rawls, Kathy Dawson & Joanne Oulette.

A visitation will be held to remember her life & offer condolences to her family on Friday June 24, 2022 at 7:00 - 9:00pm at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory, 6568 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. A graveside funeral will also take place on Saturday June 25, 2022 at 11:00am at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA 23505. Both occasions are open to family & friends.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Hope For Life Rescue Inc, 610 Jack Rabbit Rd #3, Virginia Beach, VA 23451 or a local SPCA shelter. The ability for Nancy to pass away peacefully at home was achieved by the efforts of many, but was only made possible by her daughter-in-law Trina Rawls. Trina's knowledge, wisdom & unfaltering commitment to the dignity of life, provided this invaluable gift to Nancy & her family. The family wishes to send their heart-felt thanks to the wonderful administrators, nurses, aides & other staff at Sentara Hospice & Peggy Zoeller & Enna Parker for their compassionate care.

To her husband she leaves her deep gratitude. To her daughter she passes on her love of nature, to her son she confers her passion for cooking. Nancy was loved by so many. Her generous spirit & kind heart left an impression wherever she went. She joins her family in Heaven, where they are sure to spend their days at the beach. Nancy you have fulfilled the task that was set before you. You are now resting in the arms of the Lord.... You did well.

My flesh & my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart & my portion forever.

Psalm 73:26.

Nancy and her sister Joan and I have been friends since we were born. My grandparents lived on lavalette ave and our mothers rolled us in City Park daily.
