John Carpenter Obituary

John L. Carpenter Franklinton - John L. Carpenter, formerly of Elizabeth City and Camden, passed away at his home in Franklinton, NC with his family at his side on March 4, 2026. He was 74.

John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Kaye B. Carpenter; three daughters Karen Carpenter, Jessica Knox (Stephen), and Sarah Carpenter; grandchildren Kayla Carpenter Schultz (Bradley), Malachi McCullun, Ella Latham, Jack Latham, Abigail Crail (Klaus), Gavin Crail, Levi Martinez, Vivian Knox, and Harper Hunt; and two great-grandsons, Grayson and Maverick Schultz.

He was predeceased by his parents, Judson and Ruth Fordham Carpenter; and brother Stephen Carpenter.

John was first and foremost a Ham Radio operator. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Electronic Technician and was a Vietnam Veteran. He later worked as a civil service employee at the Coast Guard Base and later at N. A. S. Norfolk.

He had been sick for many years and died from complications from a fall.
