Nancy Rooney Obituary

Nancy Ann Rooney (nee Curtis), age 89, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, in Avon, Ohio.
Born on April 4, 1936, Nancy was a lifelong learner who graduated as her class valedictorian from Holy Name High School in Cleveland. She majored in Social Studies, with a minor in French from Bowling Green State University, achieving recognition as Most Outstanding Woman. She began her professional life as a high school French teacher and later became a favorite substitute teacher at Rocky River High School for over two decades. Her dedication to education extended beyond the classroom as she also taught religious education for many years. She proudly served as a Eucharist Minister at St. Christopher Church.
Nancy was a devoted homemaker, creating a warm and loving home. She was a woman of deep faith, attending Mass at St. Christopher Parish in Rocky River regularly. She embraced life with energy and enthusiasm-an avid daily walker and exercise enthusiast well into her later years. Her love of antiques and passion for travel enriched her life with beauty and adventure. She was known for her loyalty and warmth, touching the lives of many as a steadfast friend. She valued extended family gatherings, often taking center stage.
She was the beloved wife of the late Brian Rooney and a devoted mother to Erin and Kerry. She also cherished her daughter-in-law Tracey and grandsons Kaelin and Liam. She was a dear aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. Nancy was predeceased by her beloved son Patrick and dear sister Florence.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Christopher Parish Catholic Church, 20141 Detroit Rd., Rocky River, Ohio 44116. Family and friends may call in the Gathering Area of the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass.
Nancy's legacy is one of love, life-long learning, faith, and friendship. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to malachicenter.org or the Salvation Army

I only knew Nancy and her daughter a few months, during Nancy's final months here on earth. Nancy was always kind and appreciative, Erin too, a reflection of her Mother. It will be a great reunion in heaven with God and Jesus and those gone before us! Take comfort in knowing that.
