Nancy Jean Seng, a beacon of knowledge and kindness, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, at the age of 84 in
South Bend, Indiana. Born on March 7, 1941, in
Baltimore, Maryland, Nancy was the cherished daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Comstock) Getzendiner. Her life was a testament to the power of education, the warmth of family, and the joy of lifelong learning.
Nancy's journey through life was marked by her devotion to her family and her passion for teaching. She shared a loving marriage with her husband, John L. Seng Jr., and together they raised their sons, David (Bobbie) Seng of Granger, IN, and the late Mark Seng. Her legacy continues through her grandchild, Taryn Seng, who brought immense joy and pride to her life.
She was a beloved sister to Charles "Chuck" Getzendiner of Columbus, OH, and together they shared the bonds of family and the memories of their childhood in Baltimore. Nancy's life was built on the foundation of education, having earned her bachelor's degree from Wittenberg University in Ohio. She carried her love for learning into her career as a dedicated science teacher, inspiring countless students.
Nancy's commitment to her community was evident through her work with the Salvation Army, where she took on temporary roles, always eager to lend a helping hand. Her involvement with the Sigma Kappa Sorority and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) reflected her dedication to women's education and empowerment.
For 25 years, Nancy and her husband enjoyed the warmth of West Palm Beach, Florida, during the winter months, creating a trove of memories and friendships that endured throughout her life. Her interests and activities were a reflection of her vibrant spirit and her belief in the importance of staying active and engaged at every stage of life.
A memorial Service for Nancy will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church on January 10, 2026 at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Friends may visit with family from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church 17195 Cleveland Rd.
