Nancy Sue Slayman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on November 16, 1947, in Indianapolis, to her parents Richard and Bessie Fern (Lawrence) Lawrence Sr., Nancy dedicated her life to her family and her passions, leaving behind a cherished legacy of love and creativity. She married David Paul Slayman on February 28th, 1970.

Nancy worked for 31 years as a Forklift (Mule) Operator at GM Truck and Bus, proudly contributing to the transportation industry. Her career began at the young age of 19 at White Castle in Indianapolis, where she met her husband, David. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and a deep commitment to one another.

A devoted member of the Church of the First Born in Martinsville, Nancy's faith was a guiding force in her life. She was also a past member of the Red Hat Society and an active participant in the Decatur Township Quilting Guild. Her talents in sewing, quilting, painting, and creating stained glass art showcased her creative spirit and brought beauty into the lives of those around her.

Nancy's greatest pride and joy came from her family. She is survived by her husband, David Paul Slayman, and their four beloved daughters: Tina Smith (Eddie) of Indianapolis, Dawn Wampler (Chris) of Cape Coral, Florida, Lora Kyle (Charlie) of Martinsville, and Deah Miller (Ryan) of Mooresville. She adored her 19 grandchildren: Hunter (Elizabeth), Bri (Austin), RJ, Sadie, Phil, Thomas (Taylah), Corben, Nikki (Zeke), Damien (Sydney), Trenton (Bre), Rachel, Hadley, and Albany. She was thrilled to be a great-grandmother to nine, with three more on the way. Nancy's heart was always open, welcoming the love of her sister, Brenda Cook of Beech Grove, and a multitude of nieces and nephews who looked up to her for her kindness and whimsical spirit.

Nancy's playful nature, mischievous smile, and compassionate heart touched everyone who knew her. She had an undeniable zest for life, no fear of death, and an endless love for animals, which further exemplified her nurturing spirit.

In honoring Nancy's life and legacy, the family will hold a series of services to celebrate her memory. A public visitation will be open to family and friends at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service on February 1, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.The following day, February 2, 2026, a second public visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, leading to a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Nancy will then be laid to rest in a cryptside service at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.

Nancy is preceded in death by both her parents and her two brothers, Kenny Breedlove and Richard Lawrence Jr. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and creativity that will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.

In this time of sorrow, the family asks that you reflect on the joyful memories shared with Nancy and celebrate the warmth she brought into our lives. If momma made you a quilt, please bring it or a picture of it to the funeral home. She will be dearly missed.
