Nancy S. Spinale of East Falmouth passed away on February 2, 2025, at the age of 83. Born in Framingham, she was the beloved wife of the late C. Paul Spinale and the daughter of the late Margaret (Conboy) and George Sherman. Nancy was raised and educated in Framingham, graduating from Holy Cross Academy in 1959 and Framingham State College in 1963.
While attending Framingham State, Nancy met Paul at his dental office in Framingham, where her mother worked as a receptionist. The two married in 1964, beginning a lifelong journey together. Nancy started her teaching career at Saxonville Elementary School in Framingham, where she taught third grade. After dedicating 20 years to raising her children, she returned to teaching as a Title One reading instructor at McCarthy Elementary School in Framingham until she retired in 2000.
Nancy was an active member of numerous clubs and committees, always coordinating events and activities in service of others. Her involvement included the Framingham Public Schools PTO, the Rivers School Art Show, Framingham Union Hospital Aid, St. Bridget's Church, the Framingham Heart Study, and the Framingham Garden Club.
Nancy and her family spent summers in Hull, where they enjoyed beach days, boating, and membership at the Hull Yacht Club. In 2001, she and Paul made Falmouth their permanent home. They continued their tradition of community involvement, volunteering as greeters at both Falmouth Hospital and St. Elizabeth Seton Church. Nancy was also a member of the Falmouth Hospital Auxiliary, the Newcomers/Encore Club of Falmouth, the Falmouth Garden Club, and the Fairway Pointe Neighborhood Assoc.
Nancy and Paul were passionate supporters of their children and grandchildren, attending countless sporting events and frequently cheering on the Patriots and Boston College football teams. As members of the Ballymeade Country Club and the Boston College Club of Cape Cod, they enjoyed socializing with friends and family on many occasions. Nancy, a social golfer, was part of the Ballymeade ladies' nine-holer group where she cherished the camaraderie and après gatherings.
Always the consummate hostess, Nancy had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. She embodied warmth, generosity, and a true sense of community. Whether through her professional achievements, volunteer work, or family gatherings, she created an environment where all felt at home. Her legacy of kindness and inclusivity will be forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Nancy is survived by her loving children: David D. Spinale and his wife Jennifer of Canton; Andrew G. Spinale and his wife Jennifer of Scituate; Mark A. Spinale and his wife Andrea of Scituate; and Margo S. McGonigle and her husband Michael of North Reading. She was a devoted sister to George E. Sherman, Jr. of Scituate and Allan J. Sherman of Falmouth. Nancy is also survived by her 11 cherished grandchildren: Brendan, Shane, Devan, Conor, Grady, Patrick, Caleb, Nolan, Lucas, Jameson, and Shealyn.
A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Mary of the Nativity 1 Kent St, Scituate, MA 02066 Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 11:00AM.
A period of visitation will begin in the church at 9:30am. Burial will be private.
