Joan Ann Spinale, 89, of Woburn, died peacefully at home in her daughter's arms on December 14, 2024.
Joan was born on February 2, 1935, in Boston, MA to the late Rose (Carmosino), and Angelo "Charlie" Russo
In her early years, Joan was an avid bowler and member of a bowling team called "The Spinners". Joan relished in traveling around the United States. She traveled to Florida on numerous occasions, and visited destinations such as New York City, Las Vegas and California where her mother resided for many decades.
Joan was a waitress and also spent some years working in sales. Later in life she held a job as a server in an assisted living home called New Horizons. Her outgoing personality and sense of humor delighted both residents and coworkers alike.
In the mid 1970's, Joan moved to Woburn, MA where she would reside for over 40 years. Joan lived down the street from her son Joe and his family. She was a constant and loving presence in her grandchildren's lives. Joan enjoyed spending holidays and many other fun occasions with Joe, his wife Christine, and their three children.
Joan derived much pleasure from day trips to the casino in Connecticut. She always hoped to come home with her pockets full of cash after winning ''the big pot". Joan liked to play cards and would host a weekly card game at her home on Saturdays. The game was attended by various members of her extended family including, but not limited to, her brother Augie, as well as different Aunts and Uncles on any given night. The laughter and heated debates spawning from these games could be heard echoing down the street.
Joan took great care of her mother, Rose, during her final years of life. Rose lived with Joan in her town house until she passed away. Joans daughter Rosanne continued the tradition of daughter painstakingly caring for mother. Joan moved into Rosanne's home in
Naples, Florida for the final six years of her life, and was lovingly cared for by her daughter. Rosanne made a promise that Joan would never spend any time in a nursing home, and that promise was fulfilled. Joan and Rosanne would fill their days by watching tv together or making visits to the park in order to feed the ducks. They would attend performances by the local community theater group, and could often be found having lunch with one another, amongst the flowers in a botanical garden. Before passing, her son and daughter-in-law flew to Florida to say their final goodbyes.
Joan was the loving mother of Rosanne Spinale of
Naples, Florida, Joseph J. Spinale Jr. and wife Christine of Woburn.
Beloved Grandmother of Brian P. Flynn and wife Lisa of Tewksbury, Joesph J. Spinale III and wife Gabrielle of Woburn, and Stephanie R. Patturelli and husband Mark of West Peabody.
