Nancy Staurseth Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Downs Funeral Home - Superior on Jan. 15, 2025.
Nancy Staurseth, age 91, departed from her earthly dwelling to embrace her Savior and enter her heavenly home on January 12, 2025. She died in her sleep at Bel Rae Senior Living in Mounds View, MN, having been a resident for almost 3 years. Staff enjoyed her kind spirit and teasing nature.
Nancy Lue (Brakhage) Staurseth was born July 6, 1933, to George and Peggy Brakhage of Watertown, South Dakota. She was the youngest of three children joining her siblings, George and Dorothy.
She grew up in a small town, was a "tom boy," and participated in band and orchestra in high school. She also learned short-hand and developed secretarial skills. She spoke fondly of her year at St. Paul Bible School where she met Bob Staurseth and enjoyed singing in the choir and going on tours.
Bob and Nancy married October 10, 1953, and moved to Poplar, Wisconsin to the Staurseth family farm. She learned many new skills including milking cows by hand, gardening, and canning produce. Bob and Nancy were blessed with six children. Nancy loved raising her family, working in her rock garden, going for walks, reading, baking, doing puzzles, and playing the piano. Most importantly she loved her Lord.
Some of her children's sweet memories include waking up to find her sitting in her chair at reading her Bible in the quiet of the morning; getting a whiff of fried "dough dodgers" when getting off the bus in the afternoons; picking blueberries together and taking walks down the familiar path to the river. Sundays were spent at church together often followed by a big lunch of roast and potatoes.
Nancy is preceded in death by son Gary 1984, husband Robert 2012, and daughter Renae 2021. She is survived by her children Brad (Jan) Staurseth, Cheryl (Jeff) Eliason, Brenda Staurseth, and Laurie (Dan) Porch, along with fourteen grandchildren Tony, Sarina, Jared, Evan, Braden, Janna, Brock, Bryce, Kelly, Benjamin, Seth, Mitchell, Anna, Lyndi and sixteen great-grandchildren Dekker, Jaxon, Jovy, Theo, Juniper, Bjern, Linnea, Josiah, Audrey, Lucy, Elliot, Olivia, William, Melody, Jack, and Brielle.
Nancy was a diligent and faithful worker. She was faithful in raising her family - growing and preparing food, cleaning, laundering, reading the Children's Bible Book in the morning, getting the family to church and school functions, and cheering for her children at school concerts and sporting events. She was faithful in serving at Lakeside Baptist Church -playing piano and organ, singing in choirs and quartets, or leading women's Bible studies and helping with the Awana program. She was a faithful secretary at Star Enterprises, a small business she and Bob ran in Duluth, MN. Nancy was faithful to her Lord and never wavered in her love for Him. She is now rejoicing in His faithfulness to her, His beloved daughter.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Lakeside Baptist Church in South Range, on Tuesday, January 28th at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow.
Memorials can be directed to Lakeside Baptist Church.
