Loving mother, grandmother and sister Nancy (McHale) Stevens, age 83, of Boston, MA, passed away on Thursday, October 9th, 2025, at her home.
Nancy was born on October 11, 1941, in Lowell, MA to the late Leo McHale and the late Doris (Hill) McHale.
Nancy was a graduate of Lowell High School ('59) and UMass Lowell ('63) where she earned her BA in Education. She was a passionate educator, teaching elementary school, and later a speech and language specialist.
During the summers in college, Nancy waitressed at inns in Rye and Hampton, NH, where she fell in love with the ocean, and would return to it frequently over the course of her life.
On May 1, 1965, Nancy married the love of her life, John Reid Stevens. They shared 60 wonderful years together, living in the western suburbs of Boston before enjoying a retirement split between Beacon Hill in Boston and a summer house in Orleans, and then later Kennebunk, ME.
Nancy loved her dachshunds, enjoyed gardening, travel, reading, and watching New England sports teams. Her love for walks through the Boston Public Garden inspired her family to gift a bench in her honor; please visit and enjoy the view of the swan boats. She was happiest spending time with her husband and spoiling her grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Amy Stevens and her husband David Pittelli; son David Stevens and his wife Kerry (Lyman); grandchildren Catherine and Alexander Pittelli, Patrick, Finley, and Bridgit Stevens.
The 12th of 14 children, Nancy is survived by siblings Janet Donahue, Martha Merritt, Donald McHale (and wife Paula), and predeceased by siblings Maureen Van Siclan, Barbara Randall, Patricia Moffett, Joanne Dougherty, Sheila Connors, Paula McHale, Jackie McHale, Kathy Broderick, Sharon O'Brien, and Buzzy (Norbert) McHale.
She was a beloved cousin, aunt, and godmother to countless nieces and nephews, and had many cherished lifelong friendships.
