Nancy Jane (Crimm) Gaines Straley of Bridgeport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 21, 2024. She was born in Astor, Taylor County, on October 4, 1934, the daughter of Paul E. Crimm and Helen D. Crimm. Nancy was 89 years young, with a tremendous spirit and zest for life. Her life tragically ended when she suffered severe injuries due to being struck by a truck while walking in a local parking lot.
Nancy is survived by her son Grover Gaines and his wife Janice of Flemington, her daughter Tamela Simoni and her husband Carl of Bridgeport, and one stepson Barnet Straley Jr. and his wife Betsy of Mount Clare. She is also survived by her sister Judy Riggleman of Grafton; one brother Ronald Crimm and his wife Vicki of Flemington, several nephews, Mark Riggleman, Michael Riggleman (Laura), David Crimm (Amber), niece Jennifer Scott (Bradley), along with one great niece and several great nephews. Nancy also left behind a devoted friend in Kay Molina who she enjoyed eating lunch with on a regular basis.
She is preceded in death by her husband Barnet Straley, one nephew Craig Crimm, and brother-in-law Robert Riggleman.
Nancy was quite the accomplished woman. She participated in her churches through the years acting as a Sunday School teacher, a piano player, an organizer of vacation bible school as well as organizing various Christmas programs. She loved working with the children. She graduated from Flemington High School in 1953, she worked for Willison Real Estate, and Cary Agency in Bridgeport, she was also a Cafeteria Manager for the Taylor County Board of Education where she served as President of Service Personnel. Nancy had served as President of Homemakers (where she was chosen Woman of the Year) and President of Flemington Alumni Association, she also volunteered for the United Hospital Auxiliary and she was a member of WV Fitness (Aerobics Classes.)
She was recently known as the owner of Nancy's Tours, where she managed her own business for twenty years providing touring services for hundreds of local customers that she considered her touring family. Perhaps her greatest joy, was getting the opportunity to travel with her family to places like the Caribbean, Hawaii, Italy, Ireland and Scotland, where she experienced the most wonderful memories. Everyone that traveled with Nancy loved her passion for life and travel. No one would ever imagine she was 89, she looked and acted much younger. She had recently retired in 2022, but continued to travel with the group that her daughter Tammy took over. She will be deeply missed by those of us left behind but will be welcomed with open arms by our Lord and Savior at the Gates of Heaven.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Wednesday from 2 – 8 p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024, with Pastor Gary Devart and Pastor Allen Donham presiding.
