Nancy Ruth Herron Thomson, 89, passed away March 30 in Fort Worth, TX. She was born and raised in Batesville, MS and was the daughter of the late H.E. Herron and the late James Carothers Herron. In 1957, she married the late Kimbrell A. “Bo” Thomson in Batesville, MS.
There will be a memorial service held to celebrate Nancy's life at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Batesville First Methodist Church, with the family receiving friends at 9:30 prior to. Inurnment will be held at Magnolia Cemetery where Nancy will be laid to rest with her husband and family.
Nancy graduated as valedictorian from Batesville High School. She then attended MSCW and graduated from Ole Miss with a B.S. in Business Education and received her M.S. in Business Education from Indiana State University. She taught high school business classes in Alabama and Indiana as well as adult computer classes in Indiana.
Nancy was an active member of Batesville First Methodist Church where she served as lay member to annual conference and on various boards and committees, was a lay speaker, and Sunday school teacher. She served as a local, district, and conference office of United Methodist Women in Indiana and a local officer in Mississippi. She took part in the Explorers’ Bible Study for many years, was a volunteer with Tri-Lakes Hospital Auxiliary, member of the church prayer shawl ministry, Friends of the Library, Parkinson’s Disease support group, and MFWC Batesville Woman’s Club.
Nancy leaves behind her children: Laura (Tom) Garcia of Texas; Kimbrell (Sun Ae) Thomson of Alabama; Carla (Kim) Keafer of Indiana; and David (Donna) Thomson of Hawaii; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She also leaves one brother, William (Lien) Herron.
The family requests that memorials be made to Batesville First Methodist Church, 119 Panola Ave., Batesville, MS 38606 or a charity of your choice.
