Nancy Wells Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Homes and Crematory - Washington St. on Feb. 9, 2026.
Nancy K. Wells, 84, of Columbus passed from this life Friday, February 6, 2026, at 12:05 a.m. at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community.

A cherished matriarch, and a beacon of love and kindness. Born on May 4, 1941, in Columbus, Nancy was the beloved daughter of William W. and Dorothy Irene Phegley Moore.

On June 13, 1959, she united in marriage with her soulmate, James "Jim" D. Wells, and together they built a life filled with laughter, love, and enduring memories.

Nancy's legacy is lovingly carried on by her devoted daughters, Debra (Larry) Guthrie of Columbus, Pam (Paul) Zimmer of Martinsville, and Karen Carman of Columbus; grandchildren, Zachary (Courtney) Pollert, Jacob Zimmer, Keeton (Cierra) Carman, and Kollin (Taylor) Carman; her great-grandchildren, Cecelia, Rori, Kalena, Isaiah, and Adalynn, and Aiden; sister, LuAnn Parker of West Lafayette, and several nieces and nephews, will forever hold Nancy in their hearts.

Preceding Nancy in death were her loving parents; her husband, James "Jim" D. Wells, who departed on July 14, 2025; and her siblings, William D. Moore and Diana Shappard.

Nancy's professional life was marked by her dedicated service as a rural postal carrier for the Columbus Post Office, from which she retired after 20 fulfilling years. Her warmth and amiability were the hallmark of her career, earning her the respect and affection of the entire community.

Beyond her work, Nancy found joy in simple pleasures. She enjoyed crafting beauty with her hands through basket making and crocheting. Her passion for fishing with Jim was only matched by her love of travel, particularly their treasured trips to Gatlinburg. Her kind and loving nature was woven into every aspect of her life, leaving an indelible imprint on those she touched.

Nancy K. Wells was a personification of love and kindness, a true testament to a life well-lived. Though her presence will be sorely missed, her legacy will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends. Nancy's light shone brightly in this world, and it will continue to shine in the lives of those who loved her.

Services were entrusted to Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home.

Private services were conducted and she was laid to rest next to her husband at Bethel Baptist Cemetery.

In memory of Mrs. Wells memorial contributions may be given through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
