William "Fred" Bowling, 83, of Taylorsville, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, February 9, 2026.
Fred was born December 23, 1942, in
Salem, Indiana, the son of Adam and Rosey Roark Bowling.
Fred lived a full life of hard work, laughter, and generosity. Mr. Bowling was an HVAC/Electrician by trade, and he operated his own business, Fred Bowling Sales and Service, for almost 50 years. He was also a 32nd degree Mason, member of the American Legion Post #233, and a longtime member of the Columbus Moose Lodge #398. In his early years, he worked at the family sawmill and farmed. He then went to work at the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant for several years. He enjoyed dirt track racing as a teen and won his first race. Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many nights with his coon dogs hunting and his yearly trips to Michigan salmon fishing. Deer hunting was another favorite pastime, and he enjoyed taking a friend, son, or grandson for their first hunt. He enjoyed golfing with friends, mushroom hunting, playing euchre, mowing, and spending time with his family and friends. Fred loved growing a large garden every year, and passed the love of gardening onto his daughter, Churee, with many hours of quality time spent between them. They even had fun competitions to see who would get the first red tomato of the season. He knew the secret to frying fish and loved to do so. He always would fry fish for the family reunions, birthday parties, and at the American Legion. Fred had genuine concern for "doing things right" which is a quality rare in today's world. If you were around Fred, you were guaranteed to laugh because he always had a story for you or a good joke. You were our "go-to" and our family and friends could always count on you. You will be deeply missed by those that got to know you and a family that truly loved you.
